I really love Wen Mo Yan. The ML is nice too. I just wish the production team would spend a bit more time on the storyline and character development. It would elevate the drama.
I guess the first aid at Dr LV isn't quite what we're used to, like using surgical scissors instead of trauma…
Wait til you get to ep 9 and a badly wounded Luo insists on climbing flights of stairs when Tuo could be carrying her. Details like that just aren't logical. You just don't let someone who is bleeding out be upright let alone climb stairs.
I think the directing could be better. There are too many scenes that are needlessly draggy. For example, when Luo is tailing the fiends in episode 9. It went on too long without purpose - there was no buildup of tension - just seemed like time filler. Then after being wounded, she slowly climbs up a staircase when the ML should have been racing up the staircase carrying her. This type of genre needs a high level of suspense, emotion and energy. I'm watching cause I love the leads but its a little lacklustre.
OK... May be I should wait til all the episodes has been dropped before I watch it... I barely watched 10 episodes…
I totally agree with you about ML. He was so incredible in WOH. And yet everything I've seen him in since, he's been very flat. But then I would say that for the entire cast of WOH. It seems they really had the freedom to act and invest in their characters and show the complexity of their character's personality. I feel in the last few years, there's been a real dampening down of the spirit in Cdramas.
I guess I'm the only one who thinks there is a disconnect with the character of the FL? She lived as a man for 7 years, was a warrior in battles and then when she starts to live as a woman, her character is so girlie and I think clownish. I get that she acts that way around the ML, but even outside of that, her personality doesn’t reflect someone who’s had such a complex past or lived through such a drastic contrast in realities. There’s a lack of depth that makes her character very flat.
Of course, in these dramas, the ML / FL, etc., passes out and the partner / other people assume that they are…
I wanted a happy ending but the way they did it was so lame. What was the purpose of all those flash backs in the final episode? It wasted precious time when they could have been adding more flesh to the story. I really don't know what is wrong with Chinese productions teams that they seem almost universally incapable of writing a meaningful ending. The editing in the last few episodes was not good either. Is it because of the censors? The death of Chang Yi was so rushed. I didn't even know why it happened? Lately I have lost faith in the point if watching cdramas.
I loved this drama - great acting, plot, set design - but like with so many cdramas the final episode fell flat. It just did not have the energy or originality of the previous episodes.
