Highly confused, Hancinema also lists a s male. The main writer of the Reply series and Na pd variety shows is Lee Woo Jeong and I always thought her co-writers would be female. Drama stereotypes, my bad.
I think the more appropriate would be 'liked this, not that' rather than watch this not that. I for one, consider 'Queen of 7 days' and 'Radiant office' both groundbreaking in their own genre.
I think the focus of this drama (as most of Reply dramas) on the character development and story telling. Like…
I was not referring to architecture rather living condition and that does impact significantly the life of the prisoners in general, a very valuable 'shithole' indicator. As for your personalized take on the situation, the interactions are not all sweet and brotherly, all of the incidents you mention happens to a certain degree, not sure if the frequency of their appearance would be satiable for you.

As an architecture student, I had to visit the jail in Dhaka, Bangladesh and let me guarantee you, there are severe variability in what are you referring as 'shithole'. This prisoners has a toilet in their cell and there was 1 toilet serving on average 100 prisoners in Dhaka. I don't want to get into more specific details but please rest assured a lot has to do with development.
Is this more like a romanticized version of life in jail? Do they even show all the horrible things that happen…
I think the focus of this drama (as most of Reply dramas) on the character development and story telling. Like the Reply series, they are not the documentary of life in general in 1997. 94 or 88 in Seoul, just some people and that era is a context for them to grow on. Maintaining the method, prison kind of plays the same role as the era plays in the Reply series. These days like most developed countries, prison life in SK is generally sanitized but they do have to go through you know, what they have to go through. The main character gets privileged treatment for the obvious reasons but all in all, it all felt pretty believable.
Ceki, thanks for your efforts, there's a few must watch for me that I would've never known. Most people have better things to do and we appreciate your effort very much :D
I like Captain Yoo I really do, but I feel that he is acting a bit homophobic here, his reaction after he saw…
Based on Korean netizen's reaction to actual gay celebrities, I would say they are not seen in a favorable light. So I would say most people would react in such way if not way more harsher. As a military person, he might even be more agitated because according to the military penal code in SK, same sex intercourse, willing or unwilling, is punishable by 1 year in prison. The law has been challenged but still in act I think. Also all the males have to go through personality tests before drafting and being gay is not accepted there, it's characterized as 'personality disorder'. You can read more up on wiki. So in that light, I understand where Cap Yoo is coming from. I want to see him getting educated and learn to accept. That would be great to see.
Just finished watching this and your thoughts about this are brilliantly put together in this article, feels like a great conclusion of my journey. Apart from different opinion on Kim Kang Woo who I think applies the Jang Hyuk trope of exaggerate vocalization and facial feature to deliver emotion, I agree with the rest.
Well, that's probably the first time I read an entire article without skipping a word. It's well written and ofcourse,…
Thanks :D Should've mentioned the NODE bar, that's an interesting thing to venture in as an actor. If you know about the bar than you probably know it all. Respect fellow stalker-nim.
I got half your reply in my email " yo, but it's true tho. The whole romance between Je Hyuk and Ji Ho is just…
As someone who lived there the past two years, the less you know is better. I still can't forget the horror of idol girls (barely 15 the oldest) performing in a mall and middle aged office workers in their suits going crazy with their fan chants.

Usually I am age blind, can't guess people's age especially Asian but seems like a lot of sexualizing school girl is rampant in these culture hence I mentioned that. Here they attempted it, I dunno what they thought, a cute way but I was very creeped.
I first thought it was slow (it still is in some area) but now I can't seem to wait for the next episode. Although…
There's just something off about them. I personally can't look away from the fact the Je hyeok knew her since she was a fetus while him being mature and it was implied he always liked her romantically, I just find that plain wrong. Apart from that, they just don't complement each other. I just don't see how any one of them would get less interesting without the other. I would love to see Jiho as a criminal though :)
Why is Kim Jae Wook is so popular? I don't have anything against him, but is there some show that made everyone…
hmm...I happened to drop that drama but you just described the character he played in it, did you actually hated his performance? The tick of his popularity is that he is a good actor and you can check all of his other project but you will be hard pressed to find a single bad review on his acting. If that wouldn't make an actor popular, I don't know what should.
