I haven't cried that much since 1 litre of tears and Hachiko (japanese movie). And this one is also based on a true unfortunate event. It's particularly heartwrenching when he found Riki, whose body is still warm, and realized that he could've prob saved him if he were hours earlier. Riki only came back to die where he lived with the others....
Such a pity that this drama seems to be so underrated, just bc of its age and the lack of idol actors. It's one of the best japanese dramas ever! I haven't rated a drama with a 10 since years, but this one deserves nothing less.
beautiful movie! one easily forgets that China is also rich in flora and fauna when only focusing on its rapid economic rise, with cities getting more modernized and populated. I was crying too at the fate of the leopard mother. Part of me wanted to scream at the crew to help her, but I understood that it was out of respect of the nature that they didn't interfere. It's sad, but nature is cruel.
He's going to retire from entertainment activities at the end of the year.:( I'v read somewhere that he's going to take over Johnnys Agency, not sure about that though.
Great show! I've always thought that TVB back then couldn't make a good "short" show that only consist 20 episodes or less, but this one is certainly an exception. The acting is one of the main reasons for sure.
After rewatching it, I feel that it's only an okay show now. Some fantastic acting (particularly by Deric Wan and all the older veteran actors like Lau Siu Mung and Benz Hui), but there's not much chemistry among the couples and thus the whole revenge plot and drama feel shallow. Also, it drags quite a bit in the middle part. Kathy Chow is very pretty in this. Funny, I never realized that Leon is actually from mainland China, but when I heard him speaking mandarin in the beginning, I suspected that he must be from mainland China originally.
He was one of the first japanese singers I knew and one of my first japanese movies was Moon Child. I do believe that he's talented but he just cannot pass for a 18-year old student, not even for mid-20 guy. Not sure about this.. I may watch the first episode though out of curiosity.
Watched it again and like it a lot more on second watch. Particularly the action scenes were done very well, considering it's a japanese movie made more than ten years ago. The filming location was China so I wonder if they used chinese choreographers for it since I see some similarity in the style. Takki is especially convincing, I've heard he trained in sword fighting, boxing and basic chinese martial arts and it's obvious if you watch him. I also like Kanno Miho as the villain, I know her from several other shows and she's quite a good actress imo. Love the music and the scenery is beautiful too. Overall, even though a 12 episode drama would cover the rich story of the novel better, I think they did a decent job in adapting it into a movie.
Did you decide to finish watching this drama? Just curious whether you felt it picked up again as I'm on the fence…
Yes, I decided to finish it. But it's more like a task now. And it's also because I tend to finish all japanese dorama once I've started and got half-way through it, well, the ones with the usual 8-11 episodes. I guess, my answer isn't really helpful.^-^°
Hongo Kanata's looks make me uncomfortable, he's got a body of a 15-year-old and a face of a 30-year-old... and…
He always looks like he had a sour candy in his mouth or sth. I've seen him in several shows and he always had that expression on his face.... it's distracting and makes his acting stiff.
As the scriptwriter had changed for this season, this season felt less "Code Blue" than the previous two…
I'm glad that I'm not the only one who thinks that this season is the weakest. The first season is still the best imo. I didn't know that the scriptwriter has changed, but that explains now why this season felt quite different. Season two was a bit too soap opera-ish for me, compared to the first season, but it was still really good. I like the addition of the newer generation fellowship characters in this season, but as you said, they are less fleshed out. A shame. Maybe too many characters has made the show losing focus.
