Well i believed it was because of ml’s delusion when he took innocent lives and his attachment to the revenge that he never got .as explained by the monk in the 1st ep.I believe it was why the book was given to dou Zhao instead of song mo and both of their lives were miserable, there were crypted mysteries and both needed each other’s help in the crisis and that's why to stop more tragedies in the world, heaven gave a mystic second chance of life to them.

I will say that you will be able to see romance very early on, the story of so many chapters is combusted into 4 episodes and the chemistry of the two leads has already started to pick its pace. They will be in a marriage of convenience maybe by 12 to 15th ep.
