I hate Great's spoiled rich brat who cannot take responsibility character. But, just like Tyme who seem to have genuine sympathy for Great after their conversation at the food stall, I also feel his character is just as pitiful. Imagine if the writer built the story a bit longer and deeper. We'd get to see more of his inner struggle. Even from last night's episode which only show flashes of the true reality, we still can get a glimpse of Great's psyche. He's spoilt so much he cannot make his own decision. The moment when he saved time is probably his first time doing something he truly wants. He is shielded by his family and never encouraged to do something for his own good. His father might also think that he can't do anything other than creating problems. He is protected, but he is also not trusted. You can tell that he is broken, lack of confidence and thirst of affection. He seems to struggle with self hatred. As his coping mechanism, he become an ignorance bastard. Hence, he doesn't have problem with being secretly taped during sex.
Tyme clearly has evoked something he never felt before. That's why he pursues him despite of knowing what Tyme did to him. Yes, Tyme is attractive and his boldness is intriguing for Great. But, it's probably not the main reason why Great was obsessed with him. Tyme might be ruthless and doesn't have a pure intention, but he is kind and gentle at heart. Great can sense that. Given the fact that Tyme is trying to fight for justice, Tyme becomes everything Great doesn't have.
I really wish this drama has more than 8 episodes. I wish Great and Tyme's connection was explored a bit deeper to make it more developed and to make us understand Great more. To show us more of how Tyme affects Great so much that he is trying to change everything related to Tyme on his deathbed. I think, that would make the writer's message about regret (if that's what she actually wants to convey) be more heartbreaking.
Did anyone else get an "they knew each other as kids" vibe from the "you're still afraid of dogs" line. There…
Tyme did add he knew Great is afraid of dogs from research after which Great replied 'you should have become a detective instead of a doctor'. But I also felt the same way as you did. It kinda make sense considering that Great's father knows Tyme as a child and from their conversation, the two families seem to be connected business wise. But with only 2 episodes left, I doubt they will add that narrative.
We'll just have to wait and see how the story unfolds, but for the time being, it is too early to say the story…
Oh trust me, what you mentioned is also the part that I like. In fact, I wouldn't like the drama this much if not for its suspense and mystery. I don't find problem with them jumbling scenes together like pieces of a puzzle. I am also aware that it is intentional. I have a fun time trying to put those pieces together as well. It's just that I begin to agree with some people who mentioned that there's too much going in the drama that only has 8 episodes. I am sure they also don't talk about the puzzle-like plot when they say 'underdeveloped' or 'going round and round'. For me personally, I don't mean it as a complain. I just think it's a pity because I love the story so much, it has a lot of potential. But yeah, maybe I should have not nitpicked if i enjoy the show and wait until the final episode come. I am just hoping what some people see about the plot holes and what I begin to sense will turn out not true.
My personal theory4 MINUTES THEORYTIMELINE:PRESENT/ORIGINAL - things that are happening in realityGREATS' PAST…
Based on the trailer, i think there will be an episode dedicated to tell their original meeting and relationship. If we never see that even until the end, the story will become anticlimax. By the way, thanks for sharing your theory. I pretty much have the same theory as yours. For the ending, I presume they will be together in their own reality just like the ending of Life on Mars series.
Oh my god! I love Jes' acting in this recent episode. His eyes speak a million words!
This drama is indeed lack of focus. A bunch of things are thrown into the limited episode, so that many things seem underdeveloped. However, this drama still managed to hook me. I am especially drawn into the ill-fated relationship between Great & Tyme. This kind of mellow is just right up my alley. Despite of lacking in the development area, I still want to follow their story till the end.
Okay so who thinks it's all just a dream and none of Great's changes will stick, and who's thinking we're going…
Where this drama is going reminds me of the ending of the UK tv series Life on Mars which has been adapted to K-drama. You will question which one is real, but then none of it matter because you create your reality and you believe what you want to believe.
Some people said that there is not enough backstory between Tyme and Great, that their attraction to each other lacks motivation, etc. In the first episode, Great saw a strange vision about him and Tyme, the man he never knew before, having sex. From that, we can see that Great is naturally pulled towards Tyme. Not only because he is intrigued, but the occurrences of his vision often push him to Tyme. It's almost like the time deliberately stop to make him know Tyme, to bring him to Tyme. If the theory that he is releasing his memory during the cardiac arrest is correct, it means everything about his relationship with Tyme that we've seen so far is originated from his subconscious, and Tyme's presence is very significant. So, I think it makes sense if to us, viewers, their connection is somewhat mysterious and their interaction appears out of place. But, if I were the screenwriter, I will dedicate an episode where I show their backstory to explain how Tyme is important to Great that he must remember him on his death bed. I also believe that the plot in this drama is not linear. We think they present things in order, but it's not. Hence, the 'all over the place' impression we got.
How I feel when watching this show is similar to how I felt when I watched the Netflix original 'Dark'. Since Dark, I've been searching another show that can evoke the same emotions, and I'm surprised that I find it on a bl show. Not trying to compare these two, because Dark is just excellent and has a very well written complex story. This drama, on the other hand, lacks in some ways. But it doesn't matter since you don't see this kind of concept in a BL, in this case Thai BL. I think, Dr. Sammon is smart and visionary. It just that, this is a bl, and there is a certain rule that must be followed in order to be successful in this industry. Such as, the aspect of wanting to please and attract the audience through NC scenes. I still can sense that strongly from this drama despite of showing a very promising and unique storyline. This show got so much potential. If they develop the story deeper and make it longer (let's say 12 episodes), I bet it will be more gripping.
just rewatched ep1 taking notes...(don't mind me this show serves my nerd heart too)...the cat. when i first saw…
Oh my god, yes! When I watched the first episode i also find that particular scene is weird. When the cat appears, Tonkla looked as if he was seeing a ghost. Now I understand it was his dead cat.
my bets are on tonkla this morning. he seems to be the connector. all the effort to save dome seems to be useless…
My theory is, Great's vision about the note change to 'sorry' on the ice tea Tyme brought for him happened in the original reality. But, let's just see if it will be explained later.
my bets are on tonkla this morning. he seems to be the connector. all the effort to save dome seems to be useless…
I'd say, when we see Great in a scene, it is him relieving his past and trying to fix his mistakes. Whereas, every scene without Great in it is the reality. He doesn't know the others. We just see it through another point of view that live in reality. I agree with some people that said there are at least two POVs.
If i remember correctly, the clock moved to 11.03 when Great was smoking in his balcony (in the 3rd episode). I suspect, Tyme is the last person that he's going to save. By that time, his clock will move to 11.04. He'll either die or wake up.
Some scenes between Great and Tyme in the trailer have not appeared yet. In the trailer, there is a scene where topless Tyme appears to look for something sneakily. Very suspicious. With the way things unfolded between those two so far, that scene will not sit well to be put in the next episodes. So, I still firmly believe that everything that has bee shown between those two is not real. Some people questioned why Great helped Tyme even after knowing he hurt his brother. I suspect, because it is not real. Originally, Great didn't do anything to help Tyme. But somehow, he regretted that and tried to change it in his mind. Things that he changed lead him, not only to be closer to Tyme but also making their relationship more genuine. There might be attraction and love between those two, but in the original reality, the love is clouded by Tyme's deception and probably Great's arrogance as well.
From the 1st episode, i sense that the two main leads are not like typical leads in many other dramas who are usually the center of everything happens in the story. In this series, Great seems like someone who unknowingly get dragged into a situation and has nothing to do with it at all. Meanwhile Tyme, despite having a big purpose, his character appears passive to me. And maybe, it's because he is the projection of Great's mind and longing. We see a glimpse of who he is and his dark secret, but most of the time, we see Tyme from Great's mind.
It's like we are following a story of someone who happen to get into an accident and his desperation to change everything and probably to live. But then, we have to also follow the situation which caused his accident to understand his condition. And the route to understand that is made in circle. Hence, so many scenes involving Tonkla. Maybe he is the character who will connect the dots. It just a pity that the writer chose to portray the depth of his character only from sex which become counterproductive in my opinion.
Anyway, enough with my ramble. I just want to say, "My God!" Great and Tyme's love scene felt so real and natural. It was so pretty. It's rare to see a good/natural love scene in a bl show. I love the tension and the awkwardness between them, and the way Tyme was hesitant but at the same time desiring. I was touched. They're both just beautiful.
I feel something bittersweet about Great and Tyme. Their interaction, the way they look at each other, is somewhat sad. Even during their funny and awkward scene, I can sense a hint of sadness and regret. Oh, in the trailer, there is a scene where they meet in a bar and Great asks Tyme, "are you following me?". Given how the 3rd episode ended, I don't know how that scene will fit in the next episodes. That's why I suspect that everything that has been presented to us between those two might not be real.
Anyway, I love the 'childish' date between them. Yes, it seems out of place. Not their claw machine date that is out of place, but the way the scene is inserted into the episode. But, maybe because it's not real and in the original timeline, they did go to the restaurant.
Can you tell me the plot of the series other than them baging in episode 4? 2 episodes past we have no clear idea…
Hey, i'm only a casual bl watcher because i just love watching tv series in general, any kind as long as the story is good.
I think 4 Minutes is indeed interesting and different compares to many other Thai bl series I have watched. This show is imperfect and I can point several things as criticism, but I appreciate the filmmakers' commitment to explore different trajectory and their attempt to make this as high quality as possible. This drama shows that the Thai entertainment industry (in particularly the bl genre) is ready to step up their game which I am looking forward to. The characters are not having sex all the time, because if you watch the censored version ( i did), the absence of the sex scene doesn't affect the plot at all. Although I do think the sex scene between Korn and Tonkla is somewhat important to show the dynamic of their relationship which will probably be significant for Korn's ending and Tonkla's decision in the future. The scene where Korn takes of his clothes and serve his female friend (the daughter of his family's friend and business partner) in the second episode also great in showing a power dynamic, and Korn's pressure as an illegitimate son of a wealthy family who wants to be acknowledged. As for the relationship between our two male leads, it is just starting to grow. I personally love the fact that it grows slowly.
So yeah, this drama is amazing so far. Keeps me on edge and very intriguing. I'm not trying to convince you to see this drama in a positive light since you probably won't care. I just want to give this show a defense.
I'm in love with this drama. Especially khun yai. He is the most beautiful man i've ever seen. And his acting is so good. I love the way he look at Jom. On the other hand, Jom can look too awkward more than what is portrayed in the novel. Maybe it's just the way nonkul interpret his character. But i am sure as he and khun yai get closer, he'll be less awkward.
Tyme clearly has evoked something he never felt before. That's why he pursues him despite of knowing what Tyme did to him. Yes, Tyme is attractive and his boldness is intriguing for Great.
