Very enjoyable drama! While it isn't something new and never-before-seen, it's still entertaining and a fun watch. I'm a sucker for law and coruption dramas, and the fact that this is a very real problem in my country really hit close to home. LJG and SYJ are great and have a lot of chemistry, but I have to give special props to LHY (Judge Cha Moon Sook). She was incredible in this role and, that's probably an unpopular opinion, she was kinda my favourite character. :D Oh, and Bong Sang Pil's designer suits were great!

they never hinted at anything related to mental health or they wanted to address any serious issues... its genre…
KSY tried to kill herself. This goes into the mental illness category. I understand what they are trying to do, but I do think this was not something to be made fun of. It didn't trigger me, but some people, suffering from mental illness, might feel triggered. Again, it might have been a grotesque, but I personally didn't catch it. It is pretty hard to detect in movies.
As I said, I don't hate the drama and found it very hilarious. The soundtrack is also great, which I forgot to include in my original post.
Peace and love <3 :)

To be a serial killer, you don't need any reason to kill. If you want to know more about serial killers' psyche and motivations, I recommend "Mindhunter" on Netflix. Minseok started his "career" way before he met HS, HS was like his apprentice - he tought him his ways. About the mom - Minseok killed her and that unlocked his murderous nature.
I hope I could help. :)

I'm actually not sure how to rate this drama. While it was funny (very much so), had some great moments and good political strategies, it tried to touch on sensitive topics and, honestly, didn't deliver in that aspect.
The good things about the drama are the humor, the freshness of the storyline and the cool FL (there are other things, but I will focus on this three). It's one of, if not THE, funniest dramas out there. The jokes landed and made me wheeze. The FL was cool, smart and fiery. Usually, we get a female that time-travels into the body of another female, so to change it to a man in a girl's body was cool. It was so funny to see a man struggling with being a woman.
However, that's where the problems start. They tried to briefly touch on feminism and misogyny , on homosexuality and mental health. The drama had a perfect opportunity to start a conversation about these topics in Korea, whose society is notoriously conservative, but decided to make a joke about it. Especially annoying was their take on mental health, that should've been taken more seriously. Maybe they tried to make it a grotesque, which as a movie genre is hard to achieve, but the problem is that you can sense the ignorance.
I don't hate the drama, quite the opposite, but when there are problems, they should be addressed. Maybe I'm reading too much into things and maybe I'm just being absurd. Feel free to disagree with me.

This drama is just incredible! LJG and MCW are so amazing and talanted, so you know the acting is superior. Their chemistry is spectacuar! LJG is my favourite Korean actor and, truth be told, he killed this role. Being able to portray such a complex character as Do Hyun Soo to such perfection deserves a special praise! And, of course, detective Cha Ji Won - a strong FL, who kicks a** !
The OST is spot-on, each piece is not only doing its job, but actually multiplying the effect. But what made the show even more wonderful is the carefully crafted storyline, which is pieced together to perfection. There are no plot holes, no cliches, no wrong pacing. The flashbacks actually add to the story and move it forward, making you understand it even better and, at times, add a little cuteness when it's needed the most (the darker episodes). The dialogues are just sublime. I especially loved it when they didn't show the full dialogue at first and made you suspect something, only to completely correct you when the full dialogue was shown, which only added to the suspence and made me bite my nails.
I could probably go on for ages, but the bottom line is: This drama deserves all the praise it gets! It's just ... incredible, amazing, ground-breaking, mind-blowing, glorious, supercalifragilisticexpialidocious! I recommend it to everyone, who loves not just crime, investigation, suspence dramas, but also to anyone who loves GREAT storylines, incredible acting, clever screenwriting and just overall PERFECT dramas!
PS: Sorry for the excessive review :D

It didn't change! I actually got even more engrossed in the story and loved it more and more with each episode. Once again, amazing drama with amazing story, pacing and cast! I'm glad that we share the same opinion :)

Thanks for your short review and saying that there is no romance while the genre says it has...... I'm convinced…
It does have romance, but it is not the focus. Taealha's and Tagon's romance is more outlined, while Eunseom's and Tanya's is like a moving power of the two, but not really the dominant of the show. But this becomes more clear in the other 2 parts. The story is deeper than that. Hope my explanation is not too much of a mess :D
Enjoy!
Not sure if what's written here is considered a spoiler, it's me speculating about Season 2. Please tell me if you think it contains spoilers!

I can't wait for Season 2, it's going to be so epic! Seeing the teasers after the last episode made me so desperate for more, and I'm looking forward to seeing the reunion of Saya and Eunseom! The war between the Ago Tribe and (now) Kingdom Arthdal will be amazing, I can already tell. The Momo Clan will make a return and we will se more of Xabara (she is a total badass)! The twins and Tanya will at last come together! And finally, Tanya and Eunseom will reunite <3. Their (crush) friendship is so sweet and it's made as a moving power of the two characters, rather than it being the only focus of the series.

In conclusion of this messy rambling, this is one of the best Korean dramas out there! Everyone should watch it and see for themselves! Great drama!! 100/100 would recommend to anyone!
I just finished this first part and have yet to watch the other two. And seeing how much hate this drama gets is just baffling to me. This drama gives off Game of Thrones vibes and is full of amazing acting, good CG and most importantly, a story that hasn't been covered by previous Korean productions. Just like in GOT, there is a whole world created for this series, including races and religions, state structure and governance. I love that for once the story isn't dominated by romance, but by power struggle, excellent political scheming and fight for freedom by the slaves.
So, in conclusion of my brief review, if you want romance, maybe try something different. If you want something more than mere love and high school crushes, I highly recommend this drama. It is so fresh and interesting, I actually am amazed that it came out of Korea :D.
PS: My opinion might change with the other two parts of the drama.

I totally sare your opinion! Sorry for all of those who only watch happy endings, but it can't always end happy.…
Exactly! Life isn't always joyful, you never know when it will end. I found the ending quite realistic and even though I expected them to break up, not a death, I still enjoyed the show and am not disappointed with the end. XHT had a good character arc, the second couple are still going strong, there are talks about marriage, the gang has a great friendship and so on.
Game of thrones' ending is a rushed disappointment, not MODC. :D

Ok....I've been waiting for this show to end so that I can binge watch it. Now that I'm reading the comments...so…
I would say, don't let the ending stop you from watching this drama. :)

Not everythng needs a happy ending. I enjoyed the show from the first episode until the end. The casting was incredible, Wayne did an amazing job, making everyone cry in the last episode. I will rewatch this History in the future, because it has a realisting and mature approach of depicting lgbtq+ relationships, it played with my emotions, made me laugh, made me cry, made me wait for every single episode impatiently and I truly loved the way that all the cliche thropes (love-to-hate, falling in love with the bully, etc.) were shown in a new, fresh light. Great drama, 10 out of 10 (even with the last episode).

PS: Waiting for HIStory 4 and CTL 2!!
