there was rape involved? pls reply cuz i don't see the tag
rape doesn't have to be violent or aggressive. sex without informed consent (consent by coercion is not consent) constitutes rape not just today but back then also even if the law at the time didn't recognise this fact. I understand what you mean that it may not have been viewed as rape back then but it always was.
here you go with the "uhh feminism is actually when women can do no wrong🤓☝️" bs. internalised misogyny isn't some myth - women can and are very likely to hold misogynistic views considering the fact we grow up in a patriarchy. and I am definitely not excluded from that either so no I don't think I'm better than you. I just think defending abuse is gross (fictional or not). if you like characters who are like that ig you can't control it but you should ask yourself at least once why am I okay with that behaviour? the thing about internalised misogyny is it's deep rooted.

what I've noticed is the internalised misogyny of a lot of women on here is very strong. the way they excuse and defend abusive behaviour is just shocking and I can't help but wonder how they view and treat victims of abuse in real life - I imagine not in an ideal manner.
how in the world is she is to blame for some villain's inability to keep it in his pants even when it'd be easy to take advantage of her? that's just a show of his horrible character and lack of self restraint.
so now we can't speak ill of a man that beats her up the second she does anything he dislikes. I've said it before…
I never said i expected him to be soft and puppy like after all that torment - it's only natural he's cruel. but his backstory doesn't mean his behaviour shouldn't be acknowledged as harmful and toxic. i beg you not to romanticise abusive behaviours.
People are going on about the green flag and red flag here... Let me make one thing clear: judging the depth of…
so now we can't speak ill of a man that beats her up the second she does anything he dislikes. I've said it before and I'll say it again, we all know he gets character development later and everything but right now he sucks. that is an indisputable fact. oh and him doing nice things on occasion does not negate his abuse so don't even try be like "oh but he's been nice sometimes so far."
I'm starting to not like the ML/Cang Xuan. He's a calculative person and I'm glad he will not be the end game…
honestly I'm not liking any of the mls aside from tu shan jing even though he's "boring". xiang liu has been nothing but condescending and physically abusive (I understand he has a tragic backstory and will develop as a character but I will never be able to see him as a viable love interest because of how horrible he was to her initially.) and then like you said cang xuan is too power hungry. I also really hate how he's complicit in the bratty behaviour of the princess he's with.
I have a question for those who've finished the novel. so it's been established she's lost her spiritual powers and from the previews she's lost 8 of her lives or something? I'm wondering if she ever regains her powers/lives and if she doesn't does she at least become strong some other way? I don't think I can handle seeing a weak female lead constantly facing abuse with no way to defend herself completely reliant on the male lead's protection which could falter. I don't mind a sad story or anything but she just can't be weak.

I'm so tired of the way people dismiss problematic stuff in the shows on here. like there's no reason for you…
like maybe we should all try and listen to arab people's concerns instead of immediately shutting them down. that way in the future when a kdrama includes their culture it will be respectful because directors and wtv will know what not to do.
I'm so tired of the way people dismiss problematic stuff in the shows on here. like there's no reason for you guys to defend cultural insensitivity, blatant racism, misogyny, lack of consent or whatnot as if it's your job (I'm talking in general ofc I mean guwon is far from misogynistic for example he's great actually) but here the issue of excusing cultural insensitivity is def present.
To all ya trolls out here. The official statement from the broadcasting company:https://www.allkpop.com/article/2023/07/king-the-land-production-team-responds-to-controversy-regarding-arab-prince-character-in-recent-episodesQuote:…
just because they didn't intend to defame or disrespect arab culture doesn't mean that they're absolved from responsibility if that's the impact of their representation. who are you as someone who isn't arab to be so dismissive of their concerns or upset? fictional representations can still be offensive and I think if the majority of Arabs are upset it's safe to say something is wrong. I mean the person playing an arab prince wasn't even arab ffs. it's definitely weird to attack the actors when it's the writers and directors who have creative control but the defensive and dismissive attitude of the likes of you in response to arab people feeling as if they've been misrepresented is disappointing.
