Its central character lacks convincing emotional development. Shen Jialan is presented as intelligent, resilient,…
Yeah, you’re absolutely right about female empowerment becoming a statement rather than an exploration. Towards the end, it feels like every event is just a setup for another speech about female empowerment or how much harder women have it than men. IMO, these values should be conveyed through the story itself, allowing the audience to reflect on and appreciate them through the characters’ experiences and the events that unfold, rather than having everything spelled out for us. When the message is constantly repeated instead of being woven naturally into the story, it starts to feel more like a lecture than storytelling. It’s such a pity because the writer had so much potential to explore the characters in greater depth and complexity and offer a more nuanced take on what true equality means.
Don't worry, there are plenty of us who were deeply disappointed by this drama. They could have done something…
I mean, a lot of dramas, whether K-dramas or C-dramas, tend to fizzle out midway imo, but I guess the first half got my hopes up too high. Was absolutely gobsmacked by those time skips after all that waiting. Like, seriously, THIS is what we get? Where’s the payoff? The writer wasted so much potential for character growth, depth and development, and it’s honestly such a shame. They keep emphasising the importance of living life to the fullest, but did the FL actually do that?
🤣🤣 you gave word to my feelings....I dropped it around ep 30 but positive reveiws everywhere kept me wondering,…
Haha yeah, glad to know we’re not alone. But thinking about it, I wonder if part of the reason the drama still has such a high rating at the moment is that it was released relatively slowly (I believe it was down to just one episode a day from the middle onwards), so the airing period stretched out quite a bit. A lot of the reviews and ratings were probably already in before things really started going downhill 😂
