Wow! On the childhood romance/connections I believe it's waaaaaay higher. I think of the dramas I've watched there's maybe 2 or 3 K-dramas I've seen without the connection. I think. Every K-drama I've watched this year, all varying in years has had it.
In fact, it's one trope I always just assume is waiting to pop up. There's no K-drama without it! >_<
Anywho, another great edition! I really enjoy these. It would be more cool if we had the tags for the older titles, but that it A LOT of work.
I did like the flawed male leads more, but what I didn't like is they never grew. Or if they did they only changed in the last 2 episodes. After torturing me, and the female lead, for the entirety of the drama.
This is a great article to explain the "orphan tropes." When I first really started getting into dramas it always bothered me, but it's a topic that carries over a lot.

Time travel is always a tricky beast. I love it, but there are so many gaps in them. Though I think books have done their best to try and cover everything.
You're right I felt the new victim deserved more thought and consideration.
Yes! His mother being killed because of the change of events was so shocking. Not to mention that every time I hear the song "Little Red Ridinghood" I think of Frequency.

Ooooooo, you're totally right! Though I did like the present day lead and his brother's story did carry it. Though sadly you could get rid of his character and it would have been okay, and like you said more intense.
Maybe they did it that way so that it wouldn't be too similar to "Frequency".
I guess I liked it because I enjoyed all three leads and the plots surrounding them. I got into them right away.

Ah, well thank you for another fabulous article! Yes, gaslighting! That's the word I couldn't think of. It should be a tag.
Agree 100% about the FL only goal getting a man. I usually never make it through those kind of dramas.
Yeah, I keep thinking I should tag some of the older ones, but I also didn't remember them too clearly cause I didn't care for them. I think a lot of the old tropes are changing with the times. Which is why I came back to dramas.
Though I have to confess Frequency has been my favorite movie since it came out and I still really loved Signal!!! >_<
You know I have been saying that the male lead chasing the female lead is rare. It hit me what's rare that I like about this trope is the male lead openly and respectfully pursuing the girl. As in he's not being a dick about it and trapping her. Or has to make it seem like she's pursuing him because he's too cool. Where he's not afraid to tell her and show it. Instead of watching a drama and only in the end does he finally admit he likes her after torturing her for so many episodes.
Though I will say I really enjoy the female lead pursuing her man! I only don't like it when the characters in the drama shame her for it.
It's a shame the older dramas probably aren't tagged. Great article as usual.
All of the old drama cliches actually made me quit. Finding dramas that didn't have such tropes was hard. Now that dramas are taking steps into the "new age" I fell back in love with dramas.
i loved missing nine hhfhsdhhthe only nonredeemable quality of the drama was the very last scenes with them forgiving…
It was totally left field! I loved everything about those first 9 episodes, especially the tone. ;_; It was well on its way to being the best drama of 2017 for me. Boom, it died.
lol I don't get it what does this drama have to do with Missing 9?
She was amazing! I love her and despite how I feel about the later episodes she's still one of my favorite female dramas leads. Nah, it's just me being a drama snob. ^_-
27% that's a lot!
Anywho, looking forward to part 3! I love your articles!

"It took so much screen time, it kind of consumed and pulverized the initial spark."
Well said and I wholeheartedly agree!
I'm gonna wait for it to complete though.
