I was confused too since, as you mentioned, there was an article with a reporter saying tVN said all actors wanted to be in season 3 only about 2-3 months before he sent this.
I haven't seen anyone mention it on MDL yet, but Lee Dongwook did say something about a month ago on Bubble implying that he didn't want to be in S3. It's kinda been driving me insane that there's no way to know how serious this is since tVN hasn't released any official statement and I don't want to keep my hopes up for 2-3 years only for it to not happen 😠But this is the same man who after S1 aired said that the final scene had no meaning and people should stop speculating about it only for it to get confirmed to be a S2 lead-in scene, so I have no idea if he's serious or not.
I'm a big fan of TOTNT and have been keeping up with the updates for this season so I'm gonna write some things we know so far/have been confirmed that I keep seeing people in the comments get confused/worried about!: - This is an action fantasy drama. I don't think there will be nearly as much of a romance genre leaning for this season. They are making a big point of emphasizing that this is an action drama more so than for the previous season. - Yeon and Hongjoo will NOT be romantic partners and Hongjoo (Kim Soyeon's character) is not a replacement for Ji Ah's character or role. She does have a romantic interest in Yeon, but Yeon is only interested in Ji Ah. - There is a rumor going around that Rang will have a romantic plotline, but nothing official has been confirmed yet. UPDATE- Has now been officially confirmed by TVN. - This is a sequel, not a prequel or spin-off. Yeon is time traveling and from the present day (S1 Yeon) but Rang is from the past (1938). So it takes place in the past but it's still a continuation of S1. There are some new characters, but I think it will probably be difficult to understand everything if you have not seen S1 first since they're going to continue to explore aspects of the brothers' relationship and Yeon also wants to return to Ji Ah. (Jo Bo Ah will have a cameo role in TOTNT 1938.)
