Kudos to the writers for creating strong, flawed, well-written, smart, stupid, silly, mature and likeable women.
I admit I skipped basically all scenes where mom had the audacity to think she could make life changing decisions for her adult daughters.
But I love the fact that she was written as judgemental rather than over-protective and her actions and words actually really, really hurt the daughters feelings. She even realised that her judgemental views on people made her daughters lie to her.
Basically she is an a**hole and realises it.
I dropped it back when it first aired. So happy that I picked it up again cause it's as good as everyone says! I was obviously just a silly teenager back then and didn't understand what is so great about people supporting each other.
I'm slowly getting in to japanese drama. Theyre really different from each other and always seem to keep it fresh.
One thing I like to add to number 8 is that japanese drama (and also movies) age very well. I cant watch taiwanese or korean dramas from earlier than 2010 anymore because it just doesn't keep up with todays standards - quality wise or story wise. It doesn't matter with japanese dramas because the stories are varied and sound and video crisp and clean. In my experience of course so feel free to disagree.
Nothing really special compared to other genderbender dramas, but it got me out of my drama slump.
Some inconsistencies thoughout the story. But it's lighthearted and easy to watch. No big misunderstandings, main character doesn't lack brains, main romance doesn't manipulate her feelings. Realistic characters overall. Everyones just hanging about, being in love and sh*t.
I noticed how common it was with casual abuse when I watched I watched Mary stayed out all night. I read comments trying to find someone who also felt that she was treated like a dog, but no one. NO ONE. seemed to even notice it. Which I feel sort of sums up the entire drama watching community. Apathy. No one NOTICES anything of importance.
Sooo happy you made this post. I agree with everything. I hope this is the start of active critical thinking and discussions. So many dramas have so many importat messages they want to deliver or critique which just goes right over audiences heads. cuz ya know oppa will get consent in the future it's all right.
Sometimes I'm having troubles to understand what is supposed to be dramatic or metaphorical in asian dramas. I'm so disgusted with Rena in episode 7 and how she endangered all those womens lives and also herself and Yumas. Letting everyone run away so she can find out who the death god is.
And so is this supposed to foreshadow her moral downfall? Die a hero or live long enough to see yourself become the enemy? Probably not. It's usually just collateral damage for the forwarding of the plot. It does look like the Rena faces the consequenses but I've just seen so many dramas fall into this pit.
It started out soooo dumb, but i couldn't really drop it. So I kept watching, and it ended up being the gosh darn best drama I've seen in in so long time.
So they adress Xiao ens obessive behaviour in the show all the time but is no one going to point out how absolutly creepy Hao ran is?
Has he ever done anything for Yuan fei or Di bao before cosulting her or without spending money?
How long did he know them before he starts deciding everything for them? Where Di bao goes to school, where they spend New year, making Di bao believe he is the father.
Just showering her in money while pushing her into a corner of emotional debt.
Is no one going to mention her dad selling and beating her? Really?
What about the emotional manipulation? Sexual assault? Stalking and kidnapping? Nobody? Anybody? Ok...
hah, I dont know wassup with you k-drama fans but I feel like I cant find a single popular k-drama which you guys seem to like.
Anywhooo, I like the first four episodes I've seen but I dont feel like its gonna be anything special.
I kinda did like it. Very average indeed. But I took it with a grain of salt. Would recommend to someone who enjoys shows FOR the lame acting and storyline, not DESPITE it.

Good characters tho. I like all of them so far.
