Random question: What's with having 3 screenwriters and 7 directors for 10 hours of content? Is that a normal…
Its because its an anthology, so the episodes doesnt need one director.

Ok, I worship Meteor garden 2001. I don't think there is a single romance drama in asia who can stand up to that one. I don't think there are more nuanced characters ever created than Shancai and Daoming si.

And while I don't think 2018 quite hit the nail on the head when copying the classic scenes from 2001. As a whole package I think 2018 is better.

Man, I just felt for these characters. What a ride it was. New favorite.

after watching ''Joy of Life' someone suggested me this as a comedy drama. I've watched 8 ep, i think this drama…
Its a good drama, with a slow start. But comedy is probably wrong. I would call it lighthearted.

Not going to be everyones cup of tea. But objectively speaking this is probably the best drama Taiwan has ever produced. It looks polished, it's very well written, The pacing is steady.

The writers kept giving just enough information to keep me interested. I could easily follow what happened. The fantasy elements are believable. There is build up and pay-offs that are satisfying. Tasteful romance. Every single loose end is wrapped up.

And best of all? No unnecessary episodes!

If you think you will like this type of drama, give it a shot.

Is the main characters based on elementary? I mean they are obviously both based on the sherlock holmes books but it's very similiar in superficial ways.

Jian yao and Jin yan has the same hair and clothes as Watson and Sherlock. Jian yao and Watsons teasing and no bullshit personality. Theres even have a pet turtle! :D

YES! Chris Wu is a man who knows how to kiss. That scene felt so real and intimate.

To anyone who is saying the perfect match is dramatic: What are you doing on an asian drama site? This is the most chilled out drama I've ever seen. Zero ups and down. The stakes are at an all time low in this one. Calling this a "drama" is basically telling lies.

That's not to say the story is bad, if fact it's phenomenal. Instead of focusing on story the efforts have gone to character development. Everyone is well developed, from love rival to step-mother twice removed. They also adressed slutshaming and thats an instalike from me. You also never know who is going to reveal themselves as working with or working against our heroes. Even supportive characters are well written.... Except Ah Wei, you weakass excuse for a character. Go home.

Maybe you just need to chill, or maybe you need a break from all sexism in this world. This drama is what you need. Highly recommend.

Watching episode 9 atm, and I'm not really feeling the chemistry between zhen zhen and neither Chen Che or Xiao Long. All three of them are so bland.
It's such an interesting drama otherwise I don't find it necessary for any of all that. Mother's love triangle honestly fills the "romantic lead" role. Especially considering Ya Juan's love life is the only relationships that actually forwards the plot. It feels like Zhen Zhen is just there to fill up air time.

I watched the first 3 episodes on pretty much double speed, because the dialogue is very slow, and made me feel like I was talked down to. Those three episodes could've easly been crammed into one.
I would honestly recommend going straight to episode 4 and just enjoy the rest of the episodes because they are really really good. Also anything that is important to know will be referenced back to in those episodes 1001 times so the plot will still be coherent. No seriously.

Do people really intentionally get into asian dramas? I always got the feeling that we all got curious about something…
It's literally a list of the authors favourite dramas tho. The author who claims to be quite the seasoned drama watcher.

Do people really intentionally get into asian dramas? I always got the feeling that we all got curious about something our friends watched or something. For beginners I would recommend not reading any lists and just treat a drama like any cooky mini-series and not as a weird side genre. This is just a list of dramas you liked. Which is valid also I guess.

But seriously. Watching dramas is not a skill, it's a passive hobby. There is no such thing as a beginner. Just people who have watched more or less dramas. New and old fans.

Don’t blame the prince uncharming. Blame their bad heroines. We deserve female leads with a sense of pride, who doesn’t reward abuse with love. This is my problem. When the male lead just needs a bit of love to see how happy the world is.

I blame the popularity of Dao Mingsi from Meteor garden. I guess the newer versions of Hana yori dango are the same (I just haven't watched them). But Dao mingsi often gets mentioned in tw-dramas whenever a jerk likes our heroine.

The thing about Dao mingsi is that he’s ridiculousy stupid and flawed. It’s like he doesn’t even understand that kindness is an option, even less a thing. He’s just himself - spoiled, mean, loyal to a fault. He’s mean to our heroine because he doesn’t know what else to be. It’s pretty established from the start that him being a jerk is a flaw. It’s not going to get him anywhere.

But the best part about Hana yori dango is that the woman he falls in love with isn’t childish, naïve, clumsy idiot with a magic wand of sunshines and rainbows. She’s also superflawed. Picking fights with everyone, forever judging in your face.

She doesn’t allow him to be mean. She doesn’t demand that he betters himself. They both change as a side effect of being around each other and suddenly they are compatible. Dao mingsi is forever a spoiled hot-head, but with the ability to take responsibility for his actions. Hana yori dango never acts like abuse equals misunderstood. Such underrated female lead.

Thats a fair point. I thought you criticed the drama, not their male ego. Thanks for clearing that up.

What are you talking about? This is a story based on real history. These wives are real people who used to live, and were in real life married the princes. If the wives was erased, the story would not relate to the historic events that are portrayed in this drama.

Weak ending to a surprisingly good series, First X-series drama I watched though, maybe they all end like that because they keep making more.
