Although not specifically stated, I think there was a 10yr gap before they reunited. Their coworkers have a son around 6yrs old, and it takes nearly a year to give birth. Plus this couple was newly dating when FL left, so it's reasonable to assume it would be a couple more years before they have a baby.
It was also shown that future Lin Miao's memories readjusted whenever her younger self did something different from what originally happened. So if ML met future Lin Miao sooner, she wouldn't have memories of their romance, just the time she briefly lived with him as Lin Wei Jun. But since she did remember. They probably reunited at a similar date to when she disappeared, but 10yrs later in the present. So for her, it was a short separation, but for him he had to wait 10yrs to see her again.
