About Me:  I’m just a small town girl from the USA Midwest region.  I discovered Korean Dramas in 2018, the hardest year of my life.  I was grieving the loss of my spouse.  My husband was killed in a car crash on his way to work.  A woman, driving under the influence of many different types of narcotics, swerved into his lane and crashed into his Jeep.  He died on impact, leaving me a young widow.

The unexpected loss of your spouse is like having your entire world suddenly shatter, and the life that you’ve known morphs into something completely unrecognizable.  Everything changes.  The way you eat changes. The way you watch TV changes. It affects your self-worth. Your self esteem. Your confidence.  I had terrible insomnia, and because I couldn’t sleep at night, I turned to television to escape.  I couldn’t watch any of the shows that my husband and I watched together.  It was too painful.  I actually stayed away from American television altogether.  I started watching shows from many different countries when I stumbled upon Korean Dramas, and from there I was hooked.  I watched every Modern Romance K-Drama recommended by users on MDL and YouTube.  Everything I watched was excellent, and it helped to keep my mind occupied from the pain of my loss.  


During the next five years I didn’t leave my house much.  In my grief I isolated myself, hiding away from the rest of the world.  I stayed in front of my TV, binging drama after drama while trying to avoid any thoughts of the crash or the future I was facing without my husband. My Watchlist grew to an unhealthy amount.  I wasn’t living.  This was me simply surviving.

In time I figured out how to live with the loss.  I’m no longer the same person I was before, but I have somehow found the joy of living again.  I’m still watching my dramas but I’m no longer using them to survive grief filled days.  I’m feeling happy again and I’m back to the land of the living, hanging out with family and friends again.  It’s good but I still miss all that I have lost.



I know that my tragic story sounds like the beginning of one of those  “second chance at love” type of dramas but it’s not.  The truth is that I already had my “happily ever after.”  My husband was the love of my life.  He treated me with respect and kindness.  I cannot imagine myself with anyone else.  Now I get my “romance fix” by watching Korean, Japanese, and Chinese dramas and from reading trashy romance novels.  I’m so happy to be a part of this community.  I’m forever grateful for these dramas for helping me cope in the hardest years of my life.
