I have so many thoughts running through my head π³ episode 7 was so fresh & filled with warm fuzzy feelings β the village that came together & stayed under the same roof, taking turns to raise the family π It seems 7 years is a long long time in this story, the past is referred to as 'our youth' and immature days. No one was the same version as they were 7 years ago like we had seen in episode 6 & before. And I had real doubts about anyone being able to 'leave the past in the past', through multiple character interactions it seems maybe it's possible everyone has really moved on through these years. Episode 8 had me teary eyed and warm fuzzy too and the ending (+ episode 9 trailer) anchored the 'the past is in the past, this is present day' vibe. For the ones who are cheering on for the girls' friendships, please don't miss episode 7 & 8!
The cast recently opened up about what viewers can expect in the second half of the season. In an interview featured…
soompi seemed to have included a translation error about the scene where the saloon staff said 'youngrye your boyfriend is here' π₯² β it's most likely a misunderstanding. If you read the original press release on naver (source is tagged on soompi) β it mentions this scene exactly but does not confirm that yougrye and jaepil are in a relationship. I do not believe they are dating in episode 7's timeleap & I view it as they both remained good friends. With how jaepil longs for jeonghee after she dumped him, I don't believe he would be able to forget her especially with jeonghee's sudden disappearance (even after 7 years). In kdrama universe, a guy's first love has a strong impact on them.. And if in the super small chance that youngrye does date jaepil β I would feel too confused to process that. π
You know, the head bus attendant getting hit and the strike was a heartwarming plotline but it feels kind of disconnected…
from my perspective, it feels like that particular scene with youngrye leading the strike was meant to show a new pov of youngrye to us (the audience) because from what i had seen in the comments during ep 1-4, so many commented on how youngrye seemed baby-ish and a pushover. The strike and also how youngrye spoke to jeongnam (jeonghee's older brother) emphasised that youngrye has take a leap forward into a stronger character (although I've always seen her as quite a remarkable character from ep 1 chasing the students who ran away with the tokens).
It did seem so rushed that within that episode the manager kept poking youngrye since the strike and suddenly escalated to making youngrye scapegoat for the unbalanced finance books π³ this part felt strange and rushed imo. And for the girls not having complex relationship β it's most likely just because they were young and not categorised as young adults yet (these were first loves, usually immature & hasty so I didn't expect to see rational/mature moves to communicate well from them), but we will see more soon! PS I like how bright and lively youngrye was portrayed in the timeskip! The hair! The outfit! Definitely a nice change π
(my 2 cents on not-so-important feature, please be kind or look elsewhere) 6 episodes & I can't hold back any longer β I'm on the small sinking ship of youngrye X sangcheol HAHA I loved how their characters look together π₯Ή sangcheol essentially fell in love at first sight with her and continuously made the conscious decision to chase youngrye. I rewatched specific scenes with sangcheol to see how he acts when he was confronted by the delinquents (he stood up for jaepil & himself - i love that! and would have protected the girls at the roller rink) Doesn't it mean he would be able to stand up for youngrye if he needed to? I would imagine it's important to have a supportive and proactive partner.
Although he ponders about the future often (dreamer like personality) - I also loved that he was willing to protect youngrye if his parents objected the relationship. And he reassured her that 'the men in his family will do everything, she won't have to lift a finger' π youngrye has lived a tough life, I would love to see her be spoiled and loved deeply by her future partner. I feel junghyeon's character is alright, he seems genuine but I can't help with the youngrye X sangcheol ship π it felt like something was amiss after episode 5 & there wasn't a detailed scene where sangcheol said he would give up π but it seems like an assumption that possibly he will not pursue youngrye any further... I personally thought he would focus on his own love for youngrye despite realising from multiple interactions that youngrye was mostly curious about jaepil. But he would seem like a fool for liking someone who quite clearly has a thing for someone else (his close friend especially)
My main comment on the show at this point would be - I do look forward to see how youngrye & jeonghee's friendship will unfold. There's still so much for them to rekindle, I hope jeonghee doesn't disappear forever. I do have to add - I wouldn't be bothered if jaepil was the one that fell off the face of the earth LOL The girls value their friendship & they made it clear that they won't allow a guy to tear their bond apart. Girls support girls but they're taking it to another level π₯Ί youngrye would be supportive if jeonghee and jaepil rekindled. I'm certain youngrye will understand her own value (in love, to be loved) especially in the near future (time leap!) our youngrye is not a weakling as we've already seen! [I can't believe after whole decades of watching kdramas (& cdramas) - i've finally created my first MDL account to leave this unimportant personal opinion π hiiiii!!!]
πΆβπ«οΈ I'll leave my spoiler comments censored in my subsequent posts β€οΈβπ©Ή by the way! has anyone else seen the character chemistry flowchart that shows each character's relationship to each other (friends-family-love interests)? It seems not updated to fit the progress milestones of the characters by now (episode 7-8)
