It's something....
Back then when they dared to try something different to varying degrees of success. It's not fair to compare this to The X-Files, they have nothing in common other than sharing a similar genre. Anyway, the drama was a mixed bag, some cases were better and more interesting than others. The main story that was progressing in the background wasn't well fleshed out to tie everything together and the ending was just okay. The performance of the cast was alright, nothing major but some scenes lacked the effort. Was this review helpful to you?
Rough!
It's a really rough watch. Primitive post production VFX with cheap cuts especially the blood spatters, the absolute horrors! It has to be cheaper if they opted for practical effects. If they were really on a tight budget then abandoning the post production VFX would have been the right move instead of making the drama looking cheap from the get go. Speaking of which, what on earth was that opening theme with thunder and water splashes effects. Real physical pain. The script, story, dialogue and writing in general was nothing but comical. Park Won Sang was the only highlight for me just for being there. Was this review helpful to you?
Do yourself a favor....
Just from reading the synopsis it turned out to be as rancid as it sounds exactly! This feels it was made for a college group project while trying to be edgy and trendy. The standards keep getting lower nowadays. Was this review helpful to you?
Inept writer
This drama was unbelievable bland. The worst set up with the worst match up of cast. Dead on arrival. Not a single working dynamic. Not a single plot-line ended up gracefully. Not a single couple were a good pair up nor were they appealing. The writing was a catastrophic miss up. Inept writer even for the lowest of standards. A failure through and through. Was this review helpful to you?
Had potential
To sell the slow burn story atmosphere, a drama needs to be accompanied with a memorable and fitting soundtrack. There was a desperate need for an actual original soundtrack in this one instead of filling it with random and generic sorrowful OST which ruined almost any big moment. Despite having an abundance of free time, the drama failed to give the side characters a "character", they never felt that they mattered. The drama behaved like a movie but failed to fit it in a drama (long) format. More often than not, it stuck out a bit too much and ended up being annoying. Was this review helpful to you?
Yikes!
The story was outright bad in the first place but its execution was even worse. Incoherent disjointed narrative, more often than note there was no clear direction or goal. It's impressive how it managed to continue for 16 episodes. The first 4 episodes were completely empty and could have been cut down to 30 minutes at most. Other slice of life dramas are more eventful than this one. As per usual the trend seems to be to over-saturate everything and turn a blind eye to anything else. This is Go Ah Ra's weakest project and the shallow character itself was tiring to watch. Was this review helpful to you?
Had some potentials...
The amount of inconsistencies and plot holes was unbelievably grand. Rendering it exceedingly challenging and distracting to keep watching. Any semblance of suspense that the drama attempted to create was overshadowed by how easily predictable it was. However, Lee Yoo Ri pulling through as usual. Overall, it still passes for a sleepy watch. Was this review helpful to you?
.
It works as an office comedy just fine, it didn't need to have any romance. However, the romance was the worst. Other than that, the concept got stale after a while, it felt they were running out of ideas. Was this review helpful to you?
Catastrophy
Watching this felt like a bag of chips, 99% air and 1% something. You do get some cat action in the first 2 episodes then turns into a whatever triangle. Was this review helpful to you?
There was an attempt
The beginning was unbelievable boring, it took about halfway through the drama before it started to be "decent" enough. I miss the days when thriller/mystery didn't feel the need to pad itself with side cases to keep viewers attention. I always find this structure to be flawed even when these side cases are slightly related to the main one. In the case of this drama, I would prefer if it was a constant confrontation with the main villain instead of sprinkled hints and tons of flashbacks. Speaking of villains, none of them interested me, was kinda disappointed after 16 episodes of teasing of the masked villain. Low-key kinda like an anime villain. The villain identity felt like a last minute decision instead of a calculated one. The young leads were fine but a bit bland, I would prefer more rigid actors which would suit the drama better. Was this review helpful to you?
No
The usual OCN formula. I found it to be a weak thriller, especially with the strong plot armor and the protagonist super vision. Even the mystery elements weren't interesting. Failed to get me hooked. I was excited to see Park Won Sang in a main role but the drama didn't quite deliver. Was this review helpful to you?
It's okay...
Too much time wasted on the love triangle/square while the terminal illness was brought to attention way too late. It's definitely one of the weaker tearjerkers. The earlier parts were funny and interesting but I couldn't bring myself to like the later parts, they were so dry and bland. The drama didn't do a good job in portraying that deep connection needed for any tearjerker drama. On the other hand, I was glad to see Kang Hye Jung in a 1st main lead. It's a rarity in her short career, usually it's either 2nd lead or support. Was this review helpful to you?
!
Even if we were to disregard what happened to the drama, it's still not good. Right from the beginning, episode 1 was straight up bad and it never got better. Even as a stand alone Joseon or time-travel drama, it's wonky and tacky. This drama got more holes than a swiss cheese. It reminds me of one of those Isekai anime where the dude transfer to another world with his smartphone/knowledge/expertise or anything give him an advantage which also allow for a very lazy writing to fill up a big chunk of episodes. Was this review helpful to you?
If only the first 2/3 were better....
The whole husband death and force adoption was moronic to the nth degree. Not encouraging to keep watching at all. You know what else isn't encouraging? The chemistry between the leads. The man looks older than his real age and this only made the gap even bigger. You also get the following: unsatisfactory cringy payoff, child-like screechy mother-in-law, masochist doormat female lead, and a spoiled unlikable scumbag 2nd lead. This made the road to redemption unconvincing and remained so till the end. Although it got a teeny tiny bit better but the first 65 episodes remained utterly garbage. I know the writer wanted us to hate the mother-in-law but the least they could do at the end is to give her a terminal illness or just kill her. Judging by the writer's other projects, no wonder this was bad. She stopped writing since 2015 and I hope she never come back. Was this review helpful to you?
Decent
This drama had a good example of how to do a proper "enemies to lovers" relationship instead of the usual light banter we get. The leads actually hated each other intensely with lots of bad blood between them and it took them quite some time to change that. The elder sister story I wasn't a fan of, it felt flat and lacked depth. Meanwhile the son's story was almost non-existent with the usual cameos every now and then for a comedic relief. More focus on the family was needed. The drama itself was decent although it was lacking in many areas and the last 10 episodes weren't as interesting. Was this review helpful to you?
