Almost halfway to the 50 episode mark and the show is still going remarkably strong....storyline and plot developments…
Funny yes, I did laugh. Not sure if for the right reason. It felt weird to me. I've only seen jin seyon in one other role and that is bridal mask. I actually liked her there, but she was nothin special compared to the two amazing male leads. She's not terrible, but a long sageuk needs a great actor imo. It's a heavy burden. I think Ha ji won, lee yo won, lee young ae owned up to it. But all the best female actors are too old imo, so idk who i'd rather have than jin seyon.
I just started this drama and I notice how good it is, but it's so grey..the directing is so gloomy from the soundtrack to the lack of humour and everything. I guess it's not a bad thing but it's something I have to get used to..this just seems like a heavy series to get through.
And I didn't notice before, but Moo-hyuul!!
I can't help but feel like it's disrespectful to write a show about a series of murders where the victims' families are still alive though..
Locking up the strongest fighter for 20 years and having the main character find him and be trained by him, until he gets unfairly killed - is too much like Haemosu and Jumong..same writer and all. lol. 10 years later and still the same XD
The age difference really turns me off of this. I'd tolerate it if the female lead was an adult(like 20), but she's only 15, and he's around 30. It's awful.
I love Jin Se Yeon but I'm not a fan of historical drama plus it is 50 episodes? Is this worth watching???
I don't see how 50 episodes is a bad thing unless you marathon it? It's 2 episodes a week.
Have you watched other historicals? Were they worth it? What don't you like about it? This is just another sageuk for me. Which is not a bad thing actually, since it's my favourite genre. It's addicting after 4 episodes.
I love how Choi Wankyu writes female characters. He allows them to be people and real leading characters and not plot devices, damsels, or objects of affection. They are strong in many different ways, for example I didn't expect a pretty gisaeng like Song Ju to be such a gutsy person, and Ok Nyeo learns martial arts. I also remember Sosono and Jumong's mother were great.
In this series I feel like Oknyo is a bit too perfect, she's always put in situations just to show how awesome she is. Like in episode 5 or something where she has to show off just to show off.. but I'm still loving it.
tbh I don't see how she can be anyone but the late king's child. She has his surname, and palace maids weren't allowed to have men. The only person her mother could've partnered with would be the king.
So according to the "spoiler" name changed means that Ok Nyeo is really a royalty? Since she had the…
I think she is the daughter of the previous king Injong, and possibly one of his concubines. Idk why they'd kill her mom though. And who was that at the beginning that tried to chase her, was that won-hyung? He is remembered in history as a bad guy.
I'd give this a 9 out of 10, but I'm wondering, what happened with the false confession at the end? He confessed with his real name(seo jung hoo), but I assumed since park bong soo "died", jung hoo lives as jung hoo now. He should've confessed as park bong soo, then it would've made sense.
Just finished watching ep 19 and let me tell you that for me, this drama is one of the best. I love everything…
I'm wondering is it a kind but weak king(like idk tommen from got, jinpyeong in QSD, or the last goryeo king in SFD), or a king that tries his best despite his corrupt surroundings(Like sukjong from dongyi)?
For example Jumong led his brothers to think he found the secret to making steel weapons, just to confuse them..it didn't lead to anything and Mopalmo almost paid for it. And he avoids reporting anyone about spirs and such, to wait for the right moment, but that never comes and it backfires in the end. His strategics aren't really that good. Plus the fighting scenes are quite slow and almost no blood. They're extremely fake, you don't even see wounds you just hear slashing sounds..what a budget. I feel like if the strongest fighters here were to fight the ones from other shows, they'd lose quickly. They're nothing compared to Lee bang ji, Cheok sa gwang, Bidam, Lee daegil..
I'm at ep 26, I'm wondering does it get better? Like it's not bad, but it's not good enough for the hype and 81 episodes. I don't really like the main character, I don't think he is badass, intimidating, or intelligent enough to lead such a long show. But I just came from SeonDeok and I have quite a high standard..Deokman was all of that and more. Plus Lee Yo Won was an actress strong enough to carry a long show, and I don't think the same of Song Il Gook. But I've seen pictures of the later episodes where Jumong gets a moustache, he looks much more handsome and like a true leader. Maybe it'll change. I'll make an example in next comment, don't see if you haven't watched past eps 20 or so.
