I still want to believe that she got out at the last minute...
I *feel* like the intention is to leave it ambiguous, but maybe that's just my headcanon talking. I was seriously expecting the camera to zoom out and reveal her watching as he looks for her or something. In my headcanon she actually lived happily ever after with the ML.
