I felt like I was being gaslit when people tried to convince me anything remotely lesbian was going on. They could…
i can guarantee if one of the characters was a boy no one would read their relationship as a "fucked up friendship." but my point was that the writer/director and actors made the series intending to tell a queer story. if it wasn't obvious enough for you, that's okay, but just because it wasn't the kind of romance you wanted does not make it queerbait.
there might be some cultural differences in how queer romance is portrayed, since korean fans don't seem to have any trouble reading jaeyi and seulgi as a couple. they were recently voted best couple in a popularity poll for the korean drama awards, beating out many hetero pairings.

so baffled by comments like this. the point of the dream is seulgi is gay. that's why it's there. to explicitly confirm that she is attracted to jaeyi. and it is *very* explicit. (why do you think she goes to the bathroom afterwards...?) it's also made clear by the end of the series that jaeyi is in love with seulgi. this has been confirmed by the actors, director, and writer. the director said jaeyi realizes she is in love with seulgi in ep 8. they don't have a direct confession/confirmation scene because (1) they are high school students in a homophobic society and (2) the plot depends on them not being able to fully trust each other till the end. if you don't like ambiguity, that's fine, but it isn't a failure of the story, or the writers trying to queerbait you. i personally don't know how anyone reads their relationship as platonic, it seems like you would have to do so much extra work to straight-splain all the gay stuff that happened between them.
