I did watch Wife of A Spy! It's his second time being paired with Aoi Yuu, if I'm not mistaken? I don't know how to feel about the story though.

And same. Even when he's playing obnoxious assholes (like in Nagi no Oitoma) he still manages to charm me even when I loathe the character he's playing lmao I enjoy his acting the most when he's given heavy, emotional scenes like in the last episode of this one bcos he really handles those masterfully, and he never fails to make ME emotional as well T_T I think I full on sobbed during that one scene in Miracles

every time. every time I go into a Takahashi Issei drama, I'm like, maybe this one would finally make me think of him as ugly, maybe this would finally make my brain register this short king and his weird, crinkly face as unattractive instead of impossibly dashing and criminally handsome.

yesss Emoto Tasuku appreciation <3 I always look forward to his dramas because I've also realized how versatile he is as an actor. He always gives good performances every time I come across him in a drama even though he's rarely the lead that I started to take notice. Like, his range is so wide and it never feels like he plays any two character the same way, and it doesn't hurt that he's also lowkey extremely good looking lol Petition to have him in more dramas, preferably as the main actor!!!

omg same complaint about the wanting to have more prominent female characters. I'm also pretty lukewarm going into this one exactly bcos of this reason, Kingdom has disappointed me enough.

Yessss and Mo Young was doing sooo well and their chemistry is at its best when they're bantering/trying to verbally one-up each other because it shows that she's his equal and she can go toe-to-toe with this nobleman even though she's just the up-jumped step daughter of a lesser lord !! and I'm crossing all of my fingers they at least keep some semblance of this dynamic going forward <3

I kind of don't like that they're making Mo Young nicer/softer for Go Geon bcos I wanted them to be the evil duo, but she's still the most interesting character in this show. When she fought off those assassins?? *chef's kiss* Formidable woman!!! Wish she was able to finish them off herself instead of being rescued by Go Geon :/

New On Dal is just...a pouty baby. Like I'm still very much here for Na In Woo, but the only characterization he's managing to give On Dal at this point in the game is that he's very pouty. He somehow feels even more immature than the original On Dal and lost what little depth Ji Soo had brought to the character. *sigh* But I'm soldiering on bcos when NIW smiles or laughs I swear I start hearing angels singing in my head (we were so terribly deprived of smile-y, happy NIW in Mr Queen).

True, but his chemistry with herb lady is positively electric. The dysfunctional, inevitably doomed relationship that can develop between their characters has the potential to reach epic heights...if the writers wouldn't be cowards about it and actually do it hehe

I don't see that though. Like I see him ACTING goofy because that was the personality established by Ji Soo for On Dal, but it doesn't feel as natural as Ji Soo's portrayal. I get that In Woo can be goofy irl, I did watch his bts during Mr Queen's run, but what I mean is on screen, that goofiness doesn't transfer naturally, or at least it's vastly different from Ji Soo's goofiness, which was all carefree, roguish charm and boyish arrogance.

Now, I'm not saying I like Ji Soo's portrayal more, in fact I was actually pretty meh about it and fast forwarded through a lot of scenes in the first 5 eps lol bcos I did watch this only bcos In Woo was going to be in it. But I'd be lying if I say In Woo's portrayal didn't feel jarring and unnatural.

Na In Woo's quiet intensity is a poor fit for the character that Ji Soo already established as a goofy, carefree smart-ass :( Maybe if they had NIW play the character from the beginning his interpretation of the character would feel more authentic and more his own.

yasss I was cheering when she got an actual backstory!!! I guess the whole casting switch and controversy with the main lead actor had its upside in that we get to spend more screen time with the side characters.
