This is my first Republican-era drama, and honestly, It's not so bad so far! I've only finished the first five episodes, and yes, there are some OBVIOUS flaws. But since everyone has already been talking about those nonstop, I'd rather talk about what I'm actually liking. First of all, the casting is so good. Zhang Linghe and Wang Churan are absolutely dreamy together. Not only do they look absolutely stunning, but they're also incredibly talented actors... their microexpressions are a chef's kiss... My favorite sequence so far is their past flashbacks... Their letter exchange scenes where they were constantly roasting each other were seriously so cute! Their banter was so charming, and I could honestly watch an entire drama of just those moments... Zhang Linghe and Wang Churan's chemistry is absolutely top-tier. I'm also really enjoying the plot. Personally, I've never come across a story like this. Maybe it's because I haven't watched that many dramas, so obviously it feels fresh to me rather than repetitive. I'm genuinely intrigued by the mystery here. The production may not be the best, but the acting is a solid 10/10 for me, and that's what's keeping me completely invested. I'm excited to see where the story goes from here.
P.S.: Bad Directing is one thing, but the use of ai in dramas is just no no!! I'm glad to see people speaking out about it across different platforms. I hope iQiyi learns a lesson from this backlash and stops with the ai experimenting in the dramas... Ai has no place in creative spaces...
