Considering there are traces of his spirit scattered around I don't think it fully destroyed it. As well I vaguely remember someone saying (can't remember off the top of my head who) that the spirit protection spell only transferred up to 90% of the damage to the caster, not all of it. So it's all speculation at this point.

My understanding of immortal cultivators and such is that if they die in the heavenly realm, they can return if they go through enough tribulations (mortal incarnations). So my theory is that eventually he'll return to the heavenly realm. I like to think when he does, Xiangyun will take over for Xiuming. Maybe by that time, Immortal Sun and Red Thread Master's meddling will have paid off too and Xiuming will have his own happiness to chase? Hahaha.
