Really enjoying this so far! Kim Hyun Joo is a goddess and plays the role of somebody slowly losing all control over their life very well. Some predictions; Joong Do is going to turn very nasty soon. He's almost too nice right now, especially for a drama. Ki Young was/still is in love with Hye Ju. Woo Jae is gonna be the master of Joong Do's destruction - he's playing the long game. Soo Bin's unborn child is actually Joong Do's. I feel like he used his son's death as the perfect cover-up to raise the baby as his grandson instead.
Film is so good at playing this role. You can clearly see his fear and exhaustion at having to keep his sexuality a secret. The poor man looks like he's holding back tears all the time. Amazing how none of these episodes have ever felt over an hour long, I will sincerely miss it when it finishes!
The chemistry and tension in this show is literally through the roof. Just when you think one of them is finally going to lean just that little bit further to kiss, they don't and it's right back to the simmering tension again. It absolutely breaks your heart when you see the recognition In has when he first sees Wang, he must have thought he was dreaming. He looked at him with such adoration when Wang confessed he was in love with a boy at boarding school. It's almost as if he wishes he could have been like that at his age and even more so now as he's obviously still struggling with it. Also, Wang's mother is a really unnerving presence. She loves and adores you when you're dancing to her tune but the minute she's not happy all hell breaks loose. 10/10 for me so far.
I don't know if I'm just not connecting with the new Jerry but I'm not really rooting for this couple anymore. They don't seem to be reading from the same book let alone the same page. They're having to make a lot of compromises constantly and whilst I agree with both their points of view I don't really see how they're meant to resolve it when both have careers they care about and neither should have to take a backseat. Although, I will say I didn't agree with Jerry disregarding the bullying Kai might have to endure, I understand the message he wants to send out but if it results in your son having a hard time, it comes across selfish. I also find this series is a little too sickly sweet sometimes but it is still enjoyable so it doesn't ruin it for me.
I'm on episode 62 and I must say these last episodes have been a struggle to get through. Whether the huge episode count has finally caught up to me I'm not sure but I can't help thinking some characters were killed off way too quickly. Yes, the villains make you want to tear your hair out but Imperial Consort Gao has truly been missed and these new evil characters just aren't cutting it! I also enjoyed Yingluo as a character a lot more when the Empress was still alive. Apart from some issues I have it has been an enjoyable show but it could have definitely done with being trimmed down a bit.
Such a good film that I found myself wishing it was longer than it's already lengthy 2 hour runtime. Liang Long is maybe one of the cutest characters ever in film. 9/10
Even Eui Soo and his glorious locks couldn't save this one. When an episode is only around 14 minutes and it still feels like a chore to finish then something is very wrong.
Same for me. Last episodes were disappointing. I think the doppelganger in the last epilogue is just a wink because…
It's a bit tricky to put an exact mark on it because he thought she was his first love but there's a twist there anyway so it pretty much begins from when they see each other again/first few eps. Please bare in mind that there really isn't much of a focus on romance in this so that did disappoint me.

I know a secret twin isn't exactly a refreshing trope but I kinda wish they'd gone with that angle in this case. The plausibility of someone looking identical to you and in the exact same city is a bit too far-fetched for me. I understand it's hard to keep the same level of momentum throughout an entire 16 episode run but there was definitely a huge decline in quality near the end. I also found myself liking Yoo Jun more than Seung Wook oops 😂
So was that doppelganger in the epilogue just for laughs? I was thinking maybe it was Kang Mi Na's Aunt. Her hair and style was exactly the same and she did comment on how good the plastic surgery job was on Kang Mi Na 😂 The last episodes did feel a bit of a chore to get through but I gave it a final rating of 7.5 purely for how good of a start it had.
I was really enjoying this and was eagerly waiting for the next episode up until perhaps episode 13-14. The romance started off really good but now it feels more of an afterthought. If a plot would still remain pretty much the same if a love line was removed then it hasn't done the best job in my opinion. Either way, 80% of this show was fantastic so I'm hoping the last two episodes really deliver.
The ending is very confusing and the constant dream-like state that Joseph Chang's character goes into does make it a little difficult to decipher what exactly is happening a lot of the time. However, I'm choosing to view it as a sort of "what if" ending. What if he had opened a restaurant like his girlfriend suggested instead of being involved with the gang. Regardless of the minor problems, the story was really interesting. The actor who played the villain in particular was phenomenal to me. Such a twisted character and the plot twist involving him was wild!
It hurts me how much potential this drama had and it did not live up to it. First half is a masterpiece, second…
I agree, I think I got to episode 14, got stuck there and judging from what I'm reading here I won't bother continuing it. Looking back, that line Ba Wu said about her being "the most beautiful woman in Joseon" felt really out of place. I loved it at first but now it's a bit like? Where was the build-up to that? This show turned out entirely different to what I thought it was going to be, the Bossam was a story I hadn't seen before only for it to plummet into the mundane palace politics, what a shame.
I don't know what it was about this drama but I got stuck at episode 15, came back months later and I just cannot get myself to finish it. I think it took me that long to realise I wasn't actually enjoying it anymore and just didn't feel that chemistry between the leads. It didn't help that I preferred Joon Hyuk and I could see where the story was heading. Entertaining to a certain point but then seems to come to an abrupt halt.
The ending completely blindsided all of us it seems! I just have a feeling there's more to it. Maybe he isn't his actual biological son but was his stepson - either way he's still his father and it definitely shouldn't have been kept a secret. It just doesn't make sense for him to have left his son in the States all those years without ever seeing him especially considering how much he wanted a child.
I'm really glad I decided to watch this regardless of all the comments saying not to. In my opinion, it wasn't half as bad I was expecting it to be and I genuinely did enjoy the story. However, I do agree that some parts did feel a little out of place and there is one particular scene in an episode that I couldn't watch unmuted due to the second-hand embarrassment. It dealt with a more mature topic than the average kdrama and I felt the chemistry was really good. One of the things that let it down for me was one pairing's ending - I just didn't feel like it was very earned considering he didn't like her one bit throughout the whole drama and she just kept pushing.
