Tan Xuan Lin is the ML and yes there is a love triangle but it’s one sided and by the time it can fully form the leads are already a couple. It’s kinda toxic love in the beginning but yes it definitely has romance. it’s a happy ending for the couple but since it’s a republican era drama it also has its bittersweet side.

I disagree that it was because of a crush. She had depression and was taking medication. She seemed sui!cidal already but that day all bad things came at her at once. And she acted on impulse (by jumping after the phone). She wasn’t really contemplating.
In my opinion it was because of the depression in combination with the debt and losing of the job.
