This is surprising to me - I personally feel like Xu Kai is definitely the PERFECT casting for Hua Cheng, and not Xie Lian. Many of his past roles really embody Hua Cheng's playfulness and his puppy-like devotion (The Legends) as well as his more serious, "dangerous" personality (Arsenal Military Academy).
I really can't think of who would be the perfect casting for Xie Lian. I would love to see Ding Yuxi potentially (especially as my previous pick, Luo Yunxi, is already going to be in Immortality). Can't wait to hear about the finalized details for casting!
Started watching this even when I knew it was an ongoing drama (which I usually avoided because I hate having…
To be honest, the start was very crackly and full of chemistry, and there was a lot of potential. I really liked how it was the ML that fell for her first, and how our FL really stuck to her decision about dealing with her ex-boyfriend. I think where it started going downhill was that they didn't maintain the sparkly chemistry they had in the beginning. I feel like their relationship development got cut off by some of the other side couples, and didn't really get the time to develop before venturing straight into dating and then contrived heartbreak territory. Instead of wasting time creating angst, I really wanted to see more of the fluffy banter and relationship development between the two.
I honestly had really high expectations for this one. It really filled a niche for a sweet and fluffy drama that I was looking for. Moreover, I can even tolerate a middle and an ending that gets draggy over time. But when the drama loses the spark it created in the beginning, it's difficult to watch, and is the main reason I went from watching without subs to almost dropping entirely.
i was gonna ask for some more jdrama recommendations like this one. :)
It's really hard to say because this drama is quite rare I think... it did a lot of things that were very different from general Japanese dramas (which usually focus more on plot and character development, which is why it's rare to see a really solid fluffy and non-comedic romantic drama).
You might find better luck with Chinese dramas, because they make so many fluffy romcoms that are more similar to this than Jdoramas. I think the strength of this one was in the chemistry, lack of filler, and the relationship growth between the main couple, as well as the fluff. I'm thinking immediately of Love O2O, Go Go Squid, Lucky's First Love, The Love by Hypnotic, Dr. Cutie, Skate Into Love, Le Coup de Foudre - all of which are pretty fluffy Chinese dramas that have sparkling chemistry between the leads, who go through different challenges together.
If you are looking for something fluffy and cute, this is not the drama. This is based on an older drama so it…
omg these are amazing recommendations! I've seen Love Better than Immortality, The Love by Hypnotic, The Eternal Love, and The Romance of Hua Rong, and those were definitely dramas similar to what I was talking about and looking for! I'm excited to check out your other recommendations, and thank you so much for introducing me to such great picks!
I started Girlfriend last night and binged it without subtitles. I think the beginning was better than the end, but it did satisfy my craving for something sweet and fluffy. Will be interesting to hear what you think after completing it!
Agree with you, I love historical and especially Xianxia dramas. Fantastic Mrs Right sounds right up my alley, and I'm absolutely positive that I'll love some of these!
I forgot to mention the second ML! (That's how forgettable he is - like my flabby tummy is probably more fluid…
This made me laugh haha! So disappointing to hear :'( I wish more dramas tbh made second leads get the girl, or second leads have their own love line :'(
If you are looking for something fluffy and cute, this is not the drama. This is based on an older drama so it…
Thanks for letting me know about this! This was definitely what I wanted to see (something obviously super fluffy and light) and not a bunch of pushing and pulling and contrived problems made up just for the sake of causing issues between the main couple. I'm sad since other adaptations of older works (like Fated to Love You) have done really well, and so it sucks seeing that this one just didn't work out.
Thanks for also being so kind to provide me with recommendations! I love Chinese dramas that are pure (unrealistic haha) fluff, with basically really strong chemistry between the couples. Some recent ones I saw which were really good include Dr. Cutie, The Sweet Girl, Lucky's First Love, Love O2O, Go Go Squid. I don't know if you've seen it yet, but I also have my eye on Girlfriend (not the one with Timmy Xu, but the one that's currently airing!) since it really sounds right up my alley!
I took 4 hours to skip through the whole thing. At first, ML has the worst personality of the century. But it…
Oh no! I'm so disappointed and yet so glad that I read this before making the jump. I'm really sad because the original Taiwanese drama is very famous, and I had been wanting to watch it - except b/c some of the sets are rather outdated, I was so excited when I heard this was coming out.
Definitely sad that this is the outcome and that honestly this drama sounds like a huge trainwreck (or maybe the original was just done better or there were less expectations towards it). Sorry that you had to go through the entire thing, but from what it sounds like I don't think I'll pick this up since chemistry is really important to me!
Would anyone recommend this drama if you're ok with skipping (I generally skip everything w/o the main leads) and if I'm looking for something fluffy and cute? I'm ok with draggy, but it's hard to continue a drama if the main leads don't have chemistry together!
I've only watched until ep 6 but it's fun, I am enjoying it. Yes, it has loopholes and things that make you go…
Oh man, the male lead falling in love with the female lead first is one of my favourite tropes. I'm definitely going to have to watch this if this is the case.
I was looking for a slice of life romance to watch, and this really fit my sweet tooth for something that was fluffy, romantic, and well-written. I also felt like this drama is a little unique across other romantic Japanese dramas, in that it doesn't have comedic elements, or the same "lighthearted" tone. I feel like they really captured the Josei genre here by focusing on the feelings and emotions of our cast and the struggles they face at the hospital.
I have read the manga, and I surprisingly in many ways loved the drama adaptation a lot more. Dr. Tendo is a lot more abrasive in the manga version, while Sato Takeru's portrayal really made the character stand out and feel more dimensional. The chemistry between the two leads is explosive, and I loved how adorable yet headstrong Mone's portrayal of Sakura was. Also - the kisses were so full of chemistry, and both did a great job in conveying their love for each other. My only complaint is that the series was too short, but this was a breath of fresh air and is definitely one of my stand-out Japanese dramas of all time!
I'm so shocked that so many of the previous cast members of AIS are back for this one! It seems like maybe this drama takes place across different time periods (judging from all of the different costumes - historical/fantasy and then modern day? So excited for this!
I'm so excited for this, and I'm really, really hoping that the ML in this one is the antihero or the villain (I'm assuming the Demon King) instead of a member of the Immortal tribe. Seeing who casting will involve will be super interesting.
Just curious. How are these Related Content?Love When the Stars Fall (Chinese compilation)Ashes of Love (Chinese…
They are only related in the sense that it's the same production team. Love When the Stars Fall + Ashes of Love are both xianxia, while this one is modern day. Honestly, all stories are so different, but I think they call it the "Honey Trilogy" since the romance between the main characters are all supposed to be very sweet.
Question- does anybody know how old Yu Yan is supposed to be? They mention him being younger than the others but…
In the novel, I believe he was only 1 or 2 years their junior - it wasn't a big age gap, but it did factor into the dynamics of their relationship (Tang Xue thinking he's very "cute," like a "little boy" that she looks after.) I'm not sure if this is the case in the TV show.
Surprisingly, I didn't like this as much as I thought I would. The drama is honestly quite fresh, I love how it starts off showing our ML + FL with different romantic partners, and how through their breakups they grow closer and rely on each other. I also really like the enemies, to friends, to roommates, to lovers path that both take, and also how both characters undergo a lot of personal growth.
What didn't really work for me was the whole "dog" and "cat" exchange personality. In fact, I think the drama would have been awesome without this whole storyline with the comet, and just focusing on a sweet slice of life romance instead. I say this because the animal switching was quite difficult to act, and it felt low stakes (i.e. they still retain their original personality when they switch, they just act a little more "optimistic" like a dog, or "sly" like a cat.) Instead, most of the animal aspects were meant to add comedy (i.e. like when they go to the aquarium and Miao Yu gets attracted by the fish) that didn't really click with me.
So the production was nice and I liked the actors and the theme, but there were points where I got bored and/or some things were just ridiculous, including the second male lead and the second female lead (the reasons for their break ups to me just weren't.... rational? logical?) In any case, this isn't one that I would rewatch or that I felt had explosive chemistry, but was good to pass the time, is short, has a happy ending, and you see a lot of character growth.
Have you finished the novel in english translation? Can i get the link pls? Im stuck in chapter 98. I cant seem…
It's not complete, so I would hold off on it if you're not happy with that. We're currently at the part where the main couple care for each other (they're like bickering friends, a similar relationship to the one in Skate Into Love) but are not yet together as a couple. You can also read it on Novelupdates!
Is this a sweet and fluffy romance drama? I'm looking for something to wash away the angst of my eighth (!) rewatch of The Untamed, and want something that's just a light watch with cute moments.
