I would describe the romance between Dal Mi and Do San to be based on luck and fate, which personally I think, is quite realistic even in real life. Of all the other people they could've picked to be Dal Mi's pen pal, they chanced upon Do San's picture at that moment. That is luck. & that luck brought him to meet Dal Mi in the future. Which is fate. Ji Pyung, on the other hand, was fated to meet Dal Mi several times (during their childhood 15 years ago, as pen pals and now in the future) but unfortunately he does not have the luck and it is mostly due to his hesitance and indifferent attitude.
I am one of those who claim to have SLS. But for me, I have SLS not in a way that I want the SL to have romantic interest or end up with the FL lead though. haha. I know people always associate the term SLS to be the second lead which you want the female lead to be in romantic pairing with. But for me, my definition of SLS is the second lead character that is very likeable and is a favourite out of all the others and therefore I want the character to be happy and not get hurt. So I kinda hate that there's a love triangle here. LOL
Can we just have a cute Do San & Dal Mi romantic storyline without having a love triangle? & Ji Pyung and Grandma can have a cute 'found family' storyline on the side? *Sigh* Even though I don't ship Dal Mi and Ji Pyung romantically but I think it would hurt seeing him hurt and I'm not looking forward to that. He is my favourite character after all haha
The kiss was a bit too sudden for my liking haha but mostly I just don't like the fact that they kissed before the truth is revealed to her. Sh*t is gonna hit the fan once she finds out and they're probably gonna break up for a bit. Seeing as how the current timeline is 2016, I'm pretty sure that's gonna happen and there will be a time skip. It was already foreshadowed during Dalmi & Do San's conversation with Ji Pyung with Do San naively declaring that they won't have any disagreements with each other.
I hope the truth will be revealed soon because right now by keeping the secret, it made Do San seem like an opportunist. He needs to win Dal Mi over with his own efforts. Whilst he is a sweet boy, but like his parents, I wish he's a bit more ambitious. He's a bit too timid right now. But I'm pretty sure that we will witness his growth in the coming episodes. I guess he just needed a push because so far he's more of a 'go with the flow' type of guy. He's not a planner, that's for sure. lol. I mean he literally opened a company without any in-depth planning and goals. So I'm glad that there is Ji Pyung to push and not sugarcoat things for him. I'm sure that once he have proper motivation and guidance, he would be able to excel. I hope that he'll find the motivation on his own terms and not because of Dal Mi.
I would love for the truth to be revealed by Grandma and Ji Pyung themselves. I don't like the idea of Do San being the one to reveal it. Just does not seem right to me. Dal Mi deserves to know the motivations behind their pretense which only the 2 of them would be able to explain directly. Do San would not know and understand their motivations because he's not a part of it from the beginning. So he should not be the one to reveal it because I feel like he does not have the right to. It would also be a good opportunity for Ji Pyung to confront his feelings and understand the real reasons as to why he's doing everything for her even if he kept insisting that it is to 'pay his debts' to Grandma. I'm pretty sure there's more to that and that he's in a bit of a denial right now.
Ji Pyung remains my favourite character. I think ever since we got to know him from episode one, I just got super emotionally attached to his character. Hahaha
Till today I have not watched this season. Because I got too invested in Song Yi and Do Hyun from season 1 and I know that season 2 is just gonna make me feel very upset hahaha. So yes, I chose not to watch Season 2. And I don't think I would ever be inclined to watch unless I really want to get upset. lol
He's such a good actor. The one thing that he excels at the most are his microexpressions! Have been a fan since Hello Monster. I actually have seen him briefly on Wonderful Days and thought that this young actor has got a lot of potential. So glad to see him again on Hello Monster and have been following him ever since. Currently enjoying his performance on ROY. Can't wait for him to be discharged and try out different roles because he's definitely one of those actors that are really versatile.
The first half was a bit ehh for me but the latter half of the show was when it gets really good. Loved the bromance!
Xiao Yu Er & Su Ying's romantic pairing came out of nowhere though and I would have much preferred him not being paired up with anyone romantically because it suits his personality more. I do have to admit though that I like Hua Wu Que and Tie Xin Lan's development because it made sense as they spent a lot of time together while Xiao Yu Er and Su Ying was really random. LOL. I mean even Murong Jiu and Hei Zhi Zhu made more sense than those two.
For C-dramas, I mostly love watching the ones with historical setting (historical or high fantasy wuxia/xianxia). Modern c-dramas are alright though I do find most of them to be kinda cringey/tropey for my liking however there are some exceptions.
I went into this drama knowing that it's tragedy and has a sad ending and yet I still sobbed like a baby. lol
Overall I do like this show. I actually enjoy stories that involve morally grey and flawed characters so despite the ML being an unlikable character, I liked him. I just find his character to be really interesting to study because he's neither good nor bad. He did really bad and despicable things but it's usually because he thinks that it's for the good (in this case, he wants revenge so that justice could be served) but he failed to realise that the outcome of it hurts those around him and especially towards the person he cared for the most. He was too blinded by his ultimate goal for revenge. Being a social sciences student that studies theories of morality and ethics, I can't help but to find this really intriguing.
Throughout the show, I just feel really bad for the FL. She deserves so much more. If only they would have communicated better...if only their states weren't at war with each other...if only they were just common people and not having to be pawns in the ruthless game of politics...would they have been happier?
Aside from the story, what I love the most are the main leads. Such amazing young actors! They were so convincing and they have such amazing chemistry together. I'll be looking forward to their future roles. Wouldn't it be great if they were to be paired up again in another show with a happier ending? I'm just hoping. lol
Honestly this is my kind of show. There's a reason why i'm a fan of the Reply series. This one reminds me a lot of it. A perfect blend of nostalgia and slice-of-life. It's about family, friendship and just life in general. Needless to say, I really love it. The cast is great. & the leads have great chemistry despite the show not really focusing on the romance. I wish we could've seen more though I completely understand why it ended the way it did.
I watched the first episode during the weekend and was immediately HOOKED! so I binged it during the entire weekend. & now I'm waiting for the last 2 episodes. lol
