I kind of like this story when they finally complete it to the part of Xiao Ge jump into the gate. Finally! Compare to previous work where the keep us hanging at the same place, this one is not hanging end. But when i watched this, except for finally, the plot going somewhere, all other time i've only get déjà vu feeling. I don't know is it because i read the books already or is it because i rewatched the previous seasons and ultimate note altogether with this one. Hence, although the plot this time is good, but i can't really give it high rating... =_=
if you're talking about squid game when saying "that korean one" then just stop, because its 2 different shows…
yes, saying Squid Game is 'that Korean one' make me think that they referring SG as AIB adaptation, when it is clearly not! It is bothering me too, lol
Good article! I totally 98% agree with you post. I like almost all Priest novels so i can agree with you. Even the drama not go with novel plot but they do somehow bring justices to the characters in it. There are some viewers who will not agree with this, saying we always compare with the books. But how come we not; when the books are soo good that make us cannot forget those characters and the plot in it, hence we want to see it alive (and good) in the adaptations too.
I would like to express my opinion here, comparing the drama and books is actually have nothing to do with either the drama is good or not. If it good, then thanks to the script writers, directors and other whoever that manage to make it good. If not then, that it just the bad luck of the writer to be picked up by bad production. If the drama is good (either the story it is plot stay true to the books or not), it will make some fans to want to read the books too, but if it no good, i dont know if the fans will want to read it. But thats not the same for us book readers, the fans who know the drama first will be satisfied with drama because they dont know the plot from the book, but for us, we already know the whole story of the drama (before it finish airing) so its make us anticipate it a lot. That why there will be frustration and disappointment for us when we watch dramas.
Hence, please don't condemn us for keep comparing the books and dramas, because it is natural for us to do it. lol... I know, not everyone care about this, but i somehow stuck at one of those comments below who saying about fans comparing the book and drama. That's all.
P/s: I also curious how WoH passed the censorship process when China is so strict before? Maybe its not so stict now? If that true, then i wish all the best and good luck for a drama which still stuck with postpone airing until now, Immortality (2Ha). I've already imagine how much plot will be derived from the original. Well, they dare to adapt the story, whether it is good or not, we'll see (=_=)~. ( Sorry, this maybe nothing to do with this article...)
I really like the original Laverage series, so should i watch this or not?.. hmm, how troublesome. Usually almost all remakes i watched end up not good enougth for me as original story/ original adaptation.
Nice article! I also found same problem in some of novels that i read. They minorize some serious issue (like autistic person related problems and other mental illness) and also harsh criticism from surrounding. But then again, what some of this post's comments below said are true too. We cannot take all drama as reality. Just take what can be learn as lessons, and throw the other; since we know ourselves what good and what not. But for those who don't know well, i just hope they don't take seriously at what portray in all dramas, especially these type of dramas (crimes, illness& medical procedures, social problems) seriously without any further understanding and information from related facts/sources. For me, I personally like to watch and read this type of dramas/stories. Sometimes i also frustrated because they brush of some serious illness or social problem like nothing, but i still like to watch/read this things until the end because its interesting plots. I only take this as entertainment unless it state otherwise (documentary or base on real stories) then i won't take these drama seriously so much^^. That's all for my opinion. Thank you for reading my comment!
which is weird bc they modified the storyline to add a FL, apparently.
That because the FL in Ultimate Note is not added to modified the story. That's why it not ruined. Just look at The Lost Tomb (season 1) when they add some original characters there, its bad one! Well, all of this happen because of censorship so we only can accept and adapt well with it.
honestly the Chinese reincarnation censorship ruined everything...TS is sooo lame
I always wondering why is reincarnation/time travel get censored and read the fact just now, this is absurd. But still there are some drama get passed so i wonder why is it? :(
+1. And im thinking the same too about Xiao Wu! Make me thinking is that her own voice or is it dubbing..hmm
Yup, but it is not that bad. I cannot get used to it for a first few episodes but somehow after that i dont care anymore, lol. Donghua voice is the best after all. For chinese drama, it is usual to watch & hear bad dubbing, i already get use to it ;)
Please don't compare with anime version. For me this drama should get higher rate. All main and supporting characters…
Well, i'll still gonna compare it with donghua, manhua and novel since i read/ watched all; and all that built up anticipation with drama will surely left me with some disappointing feeling, but hey, i still gonna watch it until the end since the drama also has it own charm. Since im not dropping its mean the drama is good enough (till the latest ep). For me it is! dont know if it the same for other or not :).
The order is like what Star Kongbini said;- Mystic Nine (2016) [50 years before the main event]- Lost Tomb 1 (2015)…
You right. Thanks for correcting it! The truth is, i only read books from main doumu biji series, never the sequels nor the Laojiumen and the shorts stories. Some of my comment might be wrong. Glad you can correct it:)
The order is like what Star Kongbini said;- Mystic Nine (2016) [50 years before the main event]- Lost Tomb 1 (2015)…
Yeah, in Tomb of the Sea, the main character is Li Cu, so naturally everyone will focus on him. It okay to focus on Li Cu if you watched it as a stand alone story since it only have a bit link to Lost Tomb. But if you watched Lost Tomb first (whichever season you started with), then you will know, Tomb of The Sea is not about Li Cu or Wu Xie, they not really important there. The main point there is about Nine Family situation and Wang Family. About Lost Tomb 1, there are this 2 characters, Junior Hai Shao and Chen Chengcheng which is always there. If you confuse about them, dont be. They are original characters in that season. Thats why in Lost Tomb 2, no story about them anymore. Im really glad there are only 10 episodes in Lost tomb 1. If not, then the story will be stray from original novel and i really hate that Chen Chengcheng so im glad they gone, lol.
The order is like what Star Kongbini said;- Mystic Nine (2016) [50 years before the main event]- Lost Tomb 1 (2015)…
My bad, wrong choice of word. I should said 'main story', then maybe it easier to understand. * My explanation below will be long and have spoiler. Sorry about that!
Main story/ main event - is refer to the start of this story (Lost Tomb); where Wu Xie first time joined his Uncle Three explore tomb with guide of his grandfather's journal, then how he need to keep continue explore tombs even he actually don't want to after that. If im not mistaken, Wu Xie actually explore all these tombs in one year because of some circumstances ( starting from his missing uncle, Snake-browed Copper Fish, WenJin, Zhang Qilin). This is consider as main event. - The end of this main story/main event is where Wu Xie and Zhang Qilin got separated and they promised to meet again after 10 years.
Lost Tomb Reboot/ Reunion - I still not watch it since it still ongoing and i usually watch after it finish airing so im not sure about this drama details. But since the title is Reunion and the synopsis here talk about 10 years promise so i am pretty sure it's 10 years after that. It should be story that happens after the promised 10 years; where Wu Xie go pick up Zhang Qiling from the tomb and whatever that happen after that.
Tomb of The Sea - This is a side story actually. And yes, its happen right before Lost Tomb Reboot/Reunion. Its happen a year before Reunion.
I dont know it you have watch any of these but it you haven't then, you can watch Tomb of the Sea without knowing/ watching the main event/story because Tomb of The Sea is not about Wu Xie, its about Wang's family. It same for Mystic Nine too. But for Lost Tomb series, the story is more about Wu Xie and his friends and the story for each season related to each others. You need to watch all seasons if you want to understand Wu Xie and Zhang Qilin situation better. Of course, you also can choose to ignore watching it according to seasons or event timeline if you just want to enjoy tomb raiding adventures (and somehow the slight bromance) without caring about those deep story behind;)
** I dont want to include Fatty Wang in my explanation although he is main character (the promise was between three of them actually) because Lost Tomb is more about Wu Xie's & Zhang Qilin's backgrounds and Fatty Wang is a good friend to both ( his background story isnt deep as both of them).
Its a plot continuation but the ending of first season kinda derive from the original but lost tomb 2 going back…
Okay, good luck watching it! Although the story might be a bit confusing a bit, I still hope you will enjoy it even a bit (well, i enjoyed watching it after all). I dont know you already watch this season two or not but if you not then don't worry, once you watch this season, some unanswered question in season one will be answered here.
Its a plot continuation but the ending of first season kinda derive from the original but lost tomb 2 going back…
Actually if you want to skip it, its okay too. You only need to take a few character setup for granted. For example, Wu Xie, Wang Pang Zi (Fatty Wang), and Zhang Qi Ling have an unbreakable friendship in which they unconditionally trust one another. And Zhang Qi Ling is older than Wu Xie and Wang PangZi but looks much, much younger than them. The rest of the story, well, as other said, not that good. Only half part of it are good, the rest is no.
**I think the reason why they said it wasn't good maybe because, first, they put original characters in that story resulting the story stray from original, or second, if you read one of the reviews on Lost Tomb MDL, she said 'the script is a mess, then one of main character pop up from nowhere' (its Zhang Qilin for sure). Well, what this reviewer said was true but then again, Zhang Qilin character really pop up from nowhere too in the book too(not as much as in the drama though!). So, the story was really like that and if you only watch the first season without watching next, you will be left frustrated. Season one is too short, i mean, 10 episodes with full of unanswered mysteries and the ending was left hanging with no possible continuation at that time. If im not mistaken, the production team don't want to continue the next season. The Lost Tomb 2 was make by another production team thats why its restarted back from original storyline (no more original characters in this season^^). That's all. ***Sorry for this long reply!!
