i have a dumb question - not sure if someone can answer for me. i never really got into the show but am considering rewatching. so is mo yuan technically a prince too? do mo yuan and ye hua have the same father and mother? is mo yuan the son of hao de (played by jiang kai)?
can someone explain why QD doesn't like the Grand Princes, especially Grand Prince Seongnam? is it seriously cuz the Queen used to be more friendly to Deposed Queen Yoon? QD used to like the CP (and his son) until he started getting sick and then she flipped immediately. it doesn't really make all that much sense in my head hopefully someone (or the drama) can explain this?
I have a general question if anyone can answer for me. So I don't quite understand the military dynamics in this show. Commander Xiao is like top dog in Beixin City right and supposedly he would control the military there, but how come Officer Zheng (Feng Qi's) dad offers him their 10,000 troops to the Xiao family? Aren't they under Commander Xiao's control anyways (cuz Officer Zheng answers to him)? Thank you~

I would say there are two main side couples. The first being Beichen's parents, Aunt Qi and Commander Xiao. The second coupling/love story being Beichen's younger sister, Shuyi and her two love interests, Shen Yanqing and Xu Zijun.
My recollection from the novel is that aunt Qi was a concubine when she got married with daddy Xiao. Gosh, I do…
Thank you for your reply! I just got super confused in the drama cuz I know the other wives in ep2 go on about how she had no status at first and then became his offical wife but then we also have XBC's mum as the first wife. It was so confusing but now it makes sense thank you!
So in a sense she was promoted after XBC's mum died and she then became the offical wife?
Also same what a shitty system I'm glad it's abolished now!
Also I forgot to mention in ep 41 Aunt Qi calls BXC the “eldest son” (saying he has to defend the country and avenge the Xiao’s) so they follow the birth order regardless of gender in this drama :) XBC despite being the eldest son is still Lau San (as he's the 3rd born in the Xiao family)
Ohhh that's really interesting. My grandma birthed 9 kids, 7 daughters and 2 sons and they're all numbered in the birth order. Maybe the numbering tradition you mentioned is specific to your family/region because where I'm from, your birth order no matter what gender is your "number". E.g. my dad is 7th child and 2nd son and my cousins call him 7th uncle not 2nd uncle.
Hmm I'm not sure where you got this information from because as a Chinese person I can say that's not really the case (perhaps that numbering occurred in Ancient China during the royal dynasties but not in this era) . The 1st and 2nd kids are both older sisters. 1st sister lives in America (and we never see her) and 2nd sister lives in northern Sichuan (see her briefly in episode 8-10). 3rd is Beichen and 4th is Shuyi. 5th is Beiwang and 6th is Beiyi, the twins.
I cannot take any more deaths :(!!! So sad Master Xiao and the twins are dead, and now Aunt Qi is dead too :(.…
the death of like the entire xiao family BROKE me its so sad- omg especially aunt qi's monologue that was soooo heartbreaking, she just wanted to grow old with her husband and watch her kids grow up :(
RIGHT tho aunt qi do be pretty than FL ngl can't really see the appeal of FL but aunt qi in her cheongsam's wahhhh i want to look that good at her age ahahha
praying for a HE but i feel like its gonna be so unlikely ahhh
Does anyone know the ages of the characters (Hang Jing, Bei Chan, Aunt Qi, Commander Xiao and the twins) at the beginning of the drama and at the end? Thank you~
I may have worked it out but if someone can confirm that would be amazing :) So there's three "periods" of the drama and a 5 year jump between each one Hang Jing is 16 at the start of the drama when she arrives at the Xiao's, 21 when Bei Chen comes back and they get married, and 26 when she comes back from England with the short hair Bei Chen is roughly 19? at the start of the drama (according to the books) and 24 when they get married and 29 in the third section of the drama Aunt Qi is roughly 37 at the end? She meets the Commander when she's 17 and in ep 41 she says they've been together for 20 years. So 27 at the start of the drama and 32 in the mid section Commander Xiao is 60 at the end, so 50 at the start and 55 in the mid section Still unsure about the twins.. hmm
why am i liking the cp of aunt qi and commander xiao more than the ML and FL ahahaha - there's just too many misunderstandings and arguments within the main couple it's getting unbearable to watch...
they should make a sequel of aunt qi and commander xiao o.o
He was drunk and he still had respect for her not to go all the way
It's cuz Aunt Qi isn't Shuyi and Beichan's biological mother. Her biological kids are Beiyi and Beiwang. In Chinese culture, kids call respected elders (or family friends) aunt and uncle so that's why Shuyi and Beichan call her Aunt Qi.
is mo yuan the son of hao de (played by jiang kai)?
