That is Yunhe data posted at douban site which I repeated many times you can cross check with your source since the number will be the same. You dont even know the difference between cumulative views and views during 30 Days Hot Broadcast period but claimed to know it all.

The first 2 episode is bad as it contained fighting scenes between human & Gods. But after that its amazing. The blue giant looks real and the fighting scene between him and Wu Geng is nice as well. And later the blue magical creature with horn looks awesome as well. When I see that, this is what S+ budget should look like lol.

So endure the first 2 episodes and you will be fine. The story started great since the first scene so the CGI hurdle is just miniscule.

It wont be heavy on romance since the original IP is not heavy on romance either.

And the proof, the drama is a runaway success in China and a favorite to millions of people. Millions of people are convinced with his romance dramas, just because you dont, it doesnt mean he has to stop. It is obvious from the Yunhe Playback Volumn that the drama views (89M average) has more than doubled from its original run (from the original 48M average). Meaning, it has good word of mouth and being constantly watch despite it being an old drama. Not many dramas managed to do this yet, his dramas does has the longevity instead of just a fad. Why? Because people are sold with the portrayal.

And this drama (Burning Flames) is plot based with very minimal romance. The original IP is geared towards young male. Romance would be little such as in Under the Power or much less. He already picked dramas that wasnt romance focused such as this. More than half of his dramas wasnt romance focused.

And China produced around 700 dramas each year, so he took 2 or 3 wouldn't hurt tbh... There are like 697 more for other actors that you like.

Just look it this way, he is minding his own business. Picking scripts that is nice to him and giving his best. If the script has a lot of kissing scenes, he do them such as the many kissing scenes in Glory of Tang Dynasty or in The Blue Whisper. Million of people such as me, love his portrayal that is why mostly all his dramas are hit and very popular.

I already explained to you that there is a different with Yunhe 30 Days Hot Broadcast Period (Hot Index based on) and Yunhe Playback Volumn (after the number has settled). Same with The Long Season, it only managed to get a few millions views during its 30 Days Hot Broadcast Period but since it has good word of mouth and high Douban ratings, it settled at 54M average views by the end of last year.

I think the reviews are mostly positive here. I was expecting it to be worst tbh.

Mostly people complained about the CGI but everyone else seemed to enjoy the story and still watching.

I dont know where you get you Yunhe data but he got 6 dramas with more than 40M per episodes:

Afraid it based on people taste. I thought he is wonderful in romance dramas. His romance dramas are among my favorites. They are usually with depth and substance so I enjoy watching them.

I think it might not working for you but it might work for other people. I for one thought he has great chemistry with his leading ladies. His relationship in dramas always give me this calm and soothing vibes that I adore.

I thought the intimacy he shows in Forever & Ever is one of the best chemistry I've seen in my years of watching Cdramas. Even without touch, many people were taunted with their tragic love story in One & Only since we can feel how much the characters love each other with their gentle consideration towards each other, with the way they looked into each other. I also really enjoy his chemistry with Angelababy in Twilight.

Burning Flames is actually plot/action based focused and geared towards young male viewers so you wont be seeing lots of romance here. Its pretty clear that the original Donghua is not romance focused either.

He gets romance roles because he actually good in them. All his romance centered dramas are a big hit in China; with the latest being One & Only, Forever & Ever and The Blue Whisper. He is actually an actor with the most hit dramas for the past 5 years with 6 dramas. The only actor closest to him is Bai Jingting with 4 dramas and Dilraba with 3 dramas. In order to be a hit dramas, the show need to reach at least 40M views per episode. With how much popularity his romance shows got, meaning, people are sold with the relationship they are trying to sell. We are talking about millions of views here, not like in MDL where its only in thousand.

So, he might not work for you, but he did for other people as can be seen from the numbers of views his romance dramas generated.

I stay away from his dramas due to poor reviews but when I started them 2 years ago, I actually realized that his dramas are actually good with good scripts and chemistry and I finally understood why he and his dramas are popular.

And I'm not sure whether you know or not but the 'no kissing' clause is actually melon/rumours from antis/YXH accounts. It is not true. It is slander that being passed around to tarnish his name.

For me, he is great in modern dramas too. I rewatched his dramas F&E and Twilight all the time.
