Brilliant Acting Skills, Strong Chemistry of "2001 Dao Ming Si and 2018 Shancai" Couple, Lovely OST

Many people complained about the age gap that makes them look like an uncle and his niece, but to be honest I don't see such a thing between them at all.
They naturally look like a couple, even their chemistry is so strong, that I cannot move on from them ❤ Jerry Yan is still so handsome and hot that I cannot believe that he is 43 years old! His acting is even very good, he could animate the character of Lu Xingcheng so that we can feel the darkness, the gentleness, and the fragility of Lu Xingcheng's character all at once. This proves that he succeeds enough to get out from his Dao Ming Si's nature like what he wants, although we will always remember him as the legendary Dao Ming Si ❤ Shen Yue's acting skill is also improved much better, and I enjoy watching her acting in this drama ❤ It all makes them a very cute "2001 Dao Ming Si and 2018 Shancai" couple, so my waiting for a year is not useless at all, because I'm also a huge fan of the 2001 Meteor Garden. So when I heard that the iconic Dao Ming Si from the 2001 Meteor Garden is gonna team up with Shancai from the 2018 Meteor Garden Remake makes me very excited and happy, though I don't like the 2018 Meteor Garden at all. Even the OST from Count Your Lucky Stars also makes me unable to move on even more, I always hum it ❤
But what I cannot accept the most is that there are lots of good scenes cut out, why oh why? :( Is it just because of the China TV cencorship? Ummm I don't think so.
But then again, I still ship Jerry-Shen till now, and I really hope that they can be a couple in a new movie or a new drama again ❤ a real couple if they could.

Compared to the original 2001 version, the acting skills in 2018 version are stiff and bad.

I guess you're all gonna be emotional when you read my opinion, so to all the 2018 maniac fans, make sure you're tolerated enough to read this.

I have to say that those who give a very high rating to Meteor Garden 2018 are obviously those who never watch the 2001 version or those who maybe have watched the 2001 version but they only focus to the detailedness of the storyline rather than the acting skills of the cast from the 2001 version. They even have no idea how massive popular Barbie Hsu, Jerry Yan, and the other 2001 cast were back then, even almost all of their styles were copied by the audiences, and they have no idea that so many audiences can go crazy by watching the 2001 version because of the powerful sense of reality of the 2001 version, so shame on those people who never realized those things.

As a huge fan of the 2001 Taiwanese version, I'm totally disappointed of this 2018 version, even though I'm also a millenial like most of the fans of the 2018 version (I'm now 19 years old, so when the 2001 version came up, I was just born, but I swear I have watched the 2001 version for a million times till nowadays because I'm too blown away with the storyline and the brilliant acting skills of the 2001 version, thanks to my mom and grandma. I also have watched the Korean and Japanese versions, and actually I have no comment with those two versions.)
Don't get me wrong, my disappointment for the 2018 version is not just because I'm a fan of the 2001 version. But primarily it's because of the acting skills in the 2018 version which are all very stiff and terrible. When they perform, they look like the people who are memorizing the script. The 2018 F4 are too skinny and very feminine-looking (NOT MANLY at all). Even the Korean and Japanese F4 are far more and more manly and have better acting skills than the Chinese version. And I don't get it, how come they make Dylan's Dao Ming Si only a spoiled brat who doesn't look like a dangerous man, unlike in the manga?? Despite Dylan's good acting as Dao Ming Si as a newcomer, I still don't see the overall Domyouji Tsukasa's soul in him. Physically, yes, but in character, not really. Jerry Yan still the only one who owns that Domyouji's soul, even though he's not like the way Domyouji looks like physically, but if you watch the Taiwanese version and read the manga thouroughly, you can see the manga version of Domyouji totally comes out to life all-in-one in Jerry Yan. He could be a dangerous human being that everyone can fear, but also cute and funny when it comes to Shancai (Barbie Hsu).

For Hua Zhe Lei? Well this version of Hua Zhe Lei is nothing special. I agree to some comments saying he looks like a lost puppy here. Well he does. Why do I feel that he looks like Marilyn Monroe here? Too pretty to be Hua Zhe Lei and not manly at all. That's not how Hanazawa Rui looks like in my mind when I read the manga. Who owns the Hanazawa Rui's soul? I guess Vic Chou does, but also Shun Oguri in some of it. Many women could go crazy back then when it comes to Vic Chou.

For Shen Yue's Shancai, she is totally like an awkward and dumb person, she always looks confused and without self-confidence to fight. She just fights to get out of some awkward situations and her expression is like a frightened person. She always forces herself to be angry, but failed, because she always widens her eyes like a person who is always panicked when she faces a question or an obstacle. That makes her not like a fighter and warrior at all. You cannot blame me for saying these things, because we can see it clearly that such as Barbie Hsu's Shancai, Ku Hye Sun's Geum Jan-di, and Mao Inoue's Makino all equally and totally look like fighters and warriors who try to stand out against the bullying done by Jerry Yan's Dao Ming Si, Lee Min-ho's Gu Jun-pyo, and Jun Matsumoto's Domyouji with full of willpower. Shen Yue's Shancai rather looks like a foolish little kindergarten girl who actually doesn't know how to be a rebellion but pretend to be. That's because Shen Yue doesn't have that rebellious look in her eyes and she still brings her Chen Xiaoxi personality (from "A Love So Beautiful") to Meteor Garden, where Chen Xiaoxi totally has different personality with Shancai, so that makes her fight action look very forced and unnatural. I don't know, maybe it's because the 2018 version changes the red card to joker card so that the bullying can be toned down, thus making the 2018 Shancai weaker and more confused than the previous versions and even the manga. The 2018 Shancai is even like a cold fish when she is kissed by 2018 Dao Ming Si, there is no reaction from her, except just one and only in the final wedding scene. Unlike in the 2001 version and Japanese version that makes the audiences can go crazy and even pray for the lead characters (Jerry Yan-Barbie Hsu and Jun Matsumoto-Mao Inoue) to get married in real life when we see the way they kiss each other.

You cannot say that all of those are because the 2018 F4 and Shancai are still newbies in acting while the 2001 F4 and Shancai have been mature and experienced in acting. HELL NOOOO, because as a matter of fact, the 2001 F4 and Shancai were also newbies in acting back then. 2001 Meteor Garden was also their first major drama, but we can see that the 2001 F4 and Shancai can immediately bring their each characters to life and become their each characters in 2001 Meteor Garden. It totally made us feel that the characters of Shancai, Dao Ming Si, Hua Zhe Lei, Xi Men, and Mei Zuo were only made for the 2001 casts and still no other actors and actresses can beat and replace them till nowadays. So it's clear now who are good at acting when still newbies between the old casts and the new casts.

Also, the 2018 plot change is also a complete mess. I'm totally okay with the new story of Mei Zuo-Caina or there is no fake cousin story, but the most annoying thing is there's no comedic scenes in the 2018 version at all, unlike in the 2001 Taiwanese version who has many comedic scenes that makes us laugh so hard. Even when the 2018 Xi Men and Mei Zuo are trying to make a joke, it's totally NOT FUNNY AT ALL because it looks very forced and stiff. While obviously the 2001 Xi Men and Mei Zuo are more cheerful, playful, funnier, and they look almost like stand-up comedians when they are joking, so natural. If you haven't watched the 2001 version, I suggest you GO WATCH IT NOW, you're not gonna disappointed to see the 2001 Xi Men and Mei Zuo, even though the 2001 version's storyline is not as detailed as the 2018 version.

Many people say "Don't compare this 2018 version with the iconic 2001 version. Please appreciate the 2018 version!" HEY open your eyes! How can we not compare when the 2018 version is also called Meteor Garden and they are using the names of the iconic characters from the 2001 version who are obviously irreplaceable?? If they say don't compare Meteor Garden with Boys Over Flowers, it can be accepted, because they have different characters' names, title, and language. The 2018 casts even ruined the beauty and natural acting of a Shancai and the F4 with their bad and stiff acting skills, which makes the figures of Shancai and F4 who suppose to be charming and marvelous, become completely deteriorated, ohh shame on them. All those make the 2018 Meteor Garden a completely CHILDHOOD DESTROYER. I don't know why it all happens, maybe the producer and the director want to make that kind of lousy Meteor Garden version, that destroyed the audience's IQ, exactly just like what viewers say in Douban.

The only thing that can make me tolerate the rottenness of 2018 Meteor Garden is only its easy-listening and catchy soundtrack.

Brilliant Acting, Strong Girl, Manly Men, and Amazing Storyline

I've always loved 2001 Meteor Garden since I was 5 years old till now that I'm 22. The F4 and Shancai were all newbies at that time, this is their drama debut, but I'm so amazed because they are all playing their each characters so very perfectly. They are not even playing their characters, but they ARE THE CHARACTERS, so you can feel that Shancai, Dao Ming Si, Hua Zhe Lei, Xi Men, and Mei Zuo are forever only Barbie Hsu, Jerry Yan, Vic Chou, Ken Chu, and Vanness Wu. NO ONE CAN EVER REPLACE THEM, just like no one can replace Robert Downey Jr. as Tony Stark/Iron Man.
Also the storyline is really enjoyable. There are so many comedic lines and scenes that make me laugh so hard and make me wanna watch 2001 Meteor Garden over and over again and never get bored. The romantic scenes also makes my heart fluttered all the time. I just hope the five of them can do some small reunion or something ❤

Hyeyoon's Acting is Superb, but the writing is bad and the chemistry is zero

Too many many people who said that they don't understand why this drama got so much hate. So I warn you, to all the new audiences and to all the "speak-no-evil" fans out there, make sure you are stoic enough to continue reading this comment to clear your confusion about the hate of this drama.

I'll start with the writing. Yes the writing is THAT bad. It is. The storyline is kinda spinning around the FL's story and the ML's story individually (that's so boring and never attached to each other's background story) and ended up forcing the leads to suddenly fall in love with each other out of the blue, out of nowhere, even though the FL has done many bad things to the ML and to the ML's best friend.
The storyline depiction is too dragging that can't spark a heart-fluttering and deep chemistry between FL and ML at all, so their chemistry is ZERO. They are just like frenemies or partner-in-crime throughout the story, totally not like lovers but the writing kinda forced them to act like one. It's better if this story isn't forced to be a romcom but just a fantasy-comedy instead, where they also team up with the 8-tailed fox. That way, maybe the chemistry of the team would be greater.
Those who keep insisting that there is chemistry between the FL and ML or that Hyeyoon and Lomon have best chemistry whatsoever are those blind fans who only judge anything by looks and visuals. They don't give a single f*ck about anything deeper than just visuals, such as storyline and acting skills. No matter how mess the storyline and the acting skills are, they would turn a total blind eye of it and provocate the new audiences that these two's chemistry are the best and impressive. *sigh*

Well, the FL (Hyeyoon) did nothing wrong about it, her acting is superb as a selfish, annoying, and eccentric gumiho.
Blame it on the writing and also the ML's (Lomon's) lack of acting. Yes it is. Yes he is JUST good-looking but his acting can't keep up with Hyeyoon's acting (his expressions are only 😐 whether he's happy, sad, or distraught). His characterization is a complete mess. That's a fact. How could he possibly fall in love with a woman who took his entire life one-sidedly? And when she can't return anything to the way it was bcs she has become a human, how come he could easily become infatuated to her out of the blue without (maybe for example) cursing her or taking revenge on her? She even sold one of his thing without telling him, wow, there are actually enough reasons to create a storyline where he can take revenge on her first, which can then be directed towards attraction because maybe the woman does something important for him (and also for his friend Hyun Wooseok) that makes him melt, instead of falling in love out of nowhere. In fact, the FL is depicted as a totally self-centered character that never does something so meaningful for him in the first place that could make him go crazy of her.
Well, I know this is just a fantasy romcom, but making the story too implausible is also very frustrating, given the fact that this is one of the highly-anticipated 2026 k-dramas. It's a pity.
I think anyone who could see a drama objectively without only seeing the actor's visuals will think the same thing.

I don't care of those who against my opinion by saying "Then make your own drama! If you don't like it, just don't watch it!" Well indeed, but that doesn't stop me to give a criticism to a drama that actually flopped and has a poor storyline, right? What the heck, are we only allowed to speak up when we feel that a drama is good, but when we feel that a drama doesn't meet our expectations, we are forced to remain silent, is that so? STFU to all the blind "speak no evil" fans out there.
And if you think they have best chemistry or whatsoever from your own POV that's opposite to mine, that's all up to you. TBH, I totally agree to a comment saying that people with this POV are among the most fans who are built "differently", where they rate looks instead of shows.
I also kinda laugh so hard seeing the Wikipedia page of No Tail To Tell has been revised, saying that this drama received very positive reviews and highlighted "the impressive chemistry". IMPRESSIVE CHEMISTRY??? Impressive zero chemistry maybe you mean? LMAO there comes the blind "speak no evil" pack who try their best to make the new audiences turn a blind eye to the actual mostly mixed-to-negative reviews (looks > shows for them). Same old story over and over again.

Wendy's "My Everything" (and also Hyeyoon) are the only two things that kinda kept me going til the end of the drama.

DISCLAIMER :
This is totally NOT the FL's fault. Once again, she is totally superb here and she has that natural beauty and acting skill that makes her suit almost every role, including this one. But just because she is that good as an actress and then SBS decides to win her with the ML a Best Couple Award for this drama, I think SBS should be sued. This actress is so good that a co-star like this ML is totally UNMATCHED with her, and her character feels like depicted as a woman who is able to stand alone on her feet and is not interesting in having a romantic partner, but the storyline seems to force her to fall in love with a man who also doesn't seem to love her that much (and indeed there should be NO reason whatsoever that could make the ML fall in love with her, judging from the overall storyline from the beginning till the end), so the chemistry is none.
Also kinda sick seeing the ML always try to touch the FL in their interviews and when they were off-screen (the BTS). Too obvious that the ML is sooo eager to win the "Best Couple Award" with the actress he may long has a crush on, but shame on you pretty boy, you're failed 👎 But thank God the FL always tries to keep the distance between them. I won't describe what she actually felt 'cause those blind fans could attack me for being "Mr. Know-It-All" about the FL's feeling, but I honestly can feel how she felt about the ML's doing, judging from her body language. Body language totally can't lie, you know. Once again, no harm against her. I kinda feel sorry for the FL to take this drama as her comeback. She really deserves more.

PS :
Don't you dare attack me by forcing your idea or starting a mess or saying that I'm a hater of one of the individuals that act innocent and try to be a victim here, or I'll block and report your account.
