I believe most Arab men go to other countries to do this so the portrayal isn't so far fetched as you say.
Just because some people do this, doesn't mean this represents the whole culture. I am an Arab Muslim, and no, this is not the "norm", and it's certainly not the norm for a prince who wants to maintain his image. Portrayal in this way is not what we want to see.
