It really fell flat at the end for me. Everyone says it's a happy ending, but it felt so bitter to me. I have no idea how he fell in love with Hye Jin. She was an unpleasant character from the start and never got better except in the most superficial way. She was deeply selfish and he chose money and looks over a supposed true love because of a few good memories that couldn't have exceeded the number of bad memories her original husband shared with her. Just disappointed in the worst way with how things went in the end.
I'm genuinely curious. What did her in for you?I felt they could've written her better too.
Ultimately, I do understand her. That's why I don't like her in these last episodes. It has showcased her worst character flaw exaggerated to the extreme. Hopefully watching the last three episodes when I am not so annoyed by it all will fix things.

One thing that really pushed me past the point of making excuses for CSS started with the arm biting scene. I really thought it meant she was committed and smart enough to figure out what was going on with him. Like, she knew what he was doing, so why was it so hard for her to understand his motives when he went over the cliff without her? How does one consider that abandonment? None of his subsequent actions made sense as abandonment either. Her perspective just doesn't make sense to me, so it became really hard to relate to her after that. And yeah, after the gap, she has seemed less intelligent. I'll blame it on grief, I guess. :)

She's learned a few things, no doubt, but she still doesn't understand love or forgiveness. He was right when he said he knew the kind of woman she was when he fell in love. Unfortunately, she's still the same vindictive victim she started as. She's miserable not because of anyone else but because of herself. She's trapped by her worldview. I keep hoping she's going to learn that being unforgiving and spiteful and vengeful even aren't things to be proud of. It was fun for most of the show, to be honest, but I was hoping for some growth. And a five year gap just made me feel like that might be impossible for her. I just really find her unlikable at this point. I'm hoping the last three episodes make me feel better about her, but right now, I couldn't care less if her and HBY get a happy ending. I'd like to see him end up with someone more caring.
I truly loved this drama until about 5 episodes from the end. Now I have three to go and I'm not sure I care what happens to CSS. I felt for her most of the way, but now I've realized I just don't like her anymore. I wish HBY would move on. :) I realize that probably isn't going to happen but I feel strongly enough about it that I felt compelled to write this comment. I think I'll save the last three episodes for when I'm in a more forgiving mood.
Agreed. A dropped plot line is much easier to ignore than a missing pivotal scene.
I'm on my second viewing. :D It's just really hard to find a comedy that gets the tone right so consistently. Even dramatic moments maintain that comedic edge. It's just a lovely show all around. They really hurt it by making those cuts, but it is, in my opinion, totally worth watching anyway.
Hi! Here in this thread is explained 😊https://kisskh.at/685283-the-legendary-life-of-queen-lau#comment-10412579
I had the same worry. This was on its way to being one of my all time favorites, but there were some serious missteps in episodes 22 & 23. I'm on 28 now and glad I didn't waver too much. Things definitely got better again, imo. :)
