On Unpredictable Family Jan 26, 2024
I haven't kept up with the show for a few weeks because it got boring, the leads barely had chemistry, and I couldn't stand the crazy PD. Now I found out there's a serial killer element?? Honestly, from the comments, the show still seems like its a big mess and its too far gone for me to pick it back up again anytime soon :/
On The Real Has Come! Aug 19, 2023
I put this drama on hold a few weeks back and have come back for the 2nd time to check in on where the plot is...don't think I'll be picking it back up. The plot has gotten so twisted and there isn't even a solid storyline and quite frankly most of the characters are unlikeable or don't have enough redeeming qualities to make them worth watching. I thought we'd get aa lot of lovely blended family moments and that YD and TK's relationship would grow into something strong and beautiful but I guess the writer is too busy throwing crap at a wall to fully develop any plotline or relationship. So far I have yet to see a weekend drama after Once Again that has properly pulled off a fun family drama while also navigating and fully fleshing out each unique relationship in story line without falling flat and STILL maintaining its flow after a time skip. Once Again gave us birth secrets, in-law couples, found family, health problems, pregnancy, miscarriage, sibling bonds, marriage, divorce, reconciliation AND multiple weddings all in ONE drama. And the finale and epilogue were satisfying!! The timeskip didn't feel out of the ordinary and it didn't feel like the writers skipped over a bunch of things or rushed the story line. No plotline was forgotten and main character or side character was cast aside or forgotten, even the antagonists. It's been 3 years and I still miss the cast and the story...I've rewatched it about 5 times since and I love it every time. I thought It's Beautiful Now would almost live up to its predecessor but it ended up falling flat too. The main couple had zero chemistry and the whole birth secret and the conflicts of the other couples were boring and unnecessary. There was one more drama in between that was about a father and his daughters who for some reason believed he murdered their (quite frankly neglectful and narcissistic cheating mother). The entire drama was a mess, there was cheating and birth secret and murder and whatnot. The writers couldn't figure out what they were doing and none of the characters were remotely interesting or likeable. It's actually funny that TK's stepbrother was in it too and played an unfaithful lawyer that desperately wanted a child by any means.
Anyway, it's clear that TRHC won't live up to or even compare to Once Again but I at least hope the writers can figure their crap out and at least give a solid and cohesive happy ending. Preferably have YD and TK living happily in a nontoxic environment and relationship FAR away from everyone else. Maybe even give us an older Real/Haneul with a new younger sibling.

I personally don't see the chemistry between the leads in any of the teasers so far. The age gap in real life is a bit iffy and while it isn't that big in the drama it doesn't help that Sohye has a baby face so she looks even YOUNGER than she is supposed to be while Sang Yeob actually looks his age lol. On top of that her character refers to Sang Yeob aka her COACH as "Ahjussi" which just adds an extra bit of weirdness since their relationship will most likely (if the teasers are any indication) turn romantic (and before people comment about Goblin, I had an even bigger problem with that drama, so there isn't any hypocrisy on my end at least).

You can miss several episodes and still be alright if you start at the present day...too many filler episodes…
Thank you for the info 🙏🏽 I might just jump into one of the most recent 2 or so eps & go from there but if its too boring I'll just wait a month or so until its over. Either way its good to know I'm not missing much lol.

Title The Real Has Come! Spoiler
I'm almost 10 eps behind and came to read some spoiler comments before I continue and geez it seems the story has gotten even messier. I can't believe people are favoring the Grandma and that TK's mom turned out to be so vile... I always thought she was incredibly selfish to marry and continue to force her son to live in a family where he is actively mistreated and abused but I blamed it on her cowardice and that she still had a good heart despite her dumb decisions. Now I can see I was very wrong. I am relieved to know that YD actually does give birth to Real instead of them pulling the classic miscarriage trope, especially since she already lost the other twin. I'm not sure if I'll pick the show back up just yet, I might just wait for it to finish before I stress myself out lol. From what I've read SJ and JH are still around and evil, TK's mom has become crazy and insufferable, and YD and TK broke up somewhere in the midst of all of this (which was expected but still very annoying and something I wish the writers didn't do).

This is an...interesting pairing. Never would have thought to pair Han Jihyun and Lee Minki together. They have an age difference of more than a decade which isn't unusual in this industry but Jihyun definitely has more of a baby face, she can still pass as a high schooler and a freshman in college. Her character is a seasoned ace detective... I wonder how old she is supposed to be then? I don't doubt Jihyun's acting skills at all, but I am curious to see how this will play out. If I'm being completely honest, their concepts & visuals don't really match but I hope to see them pull it off anyway!

this was why i didn’t want to watch it. i decided to give it a try it was good at the beginning i was hooked…
that's a good choice, i wish i did that lol. i saw that shiyi was the main lead in the cast list & saw cute clips on instagram so i had hope and tried to stick it out in hopes that everything would work out since it had so much potential only for it to be 36 episodes of drawn out nonsense and a thrown together 10 min conclusion :/

JCW is without a doubt an amazing actor. His only fault is that either he isn't good at choosing projects/scripts or tgat he has bas luck and each one seems promising vut dalla flat due to inconsistent/bad writing. Lovestruck in the City was decent and he pulled of the character well and had great chemistry with the cast my only problems lied in the show itself as it dragged on too long and ended as if it hinted towarss a second season but there has been no news or plans regarding one. Bacsktreet Rookie and Melting Me Softly were just absolute messes...I wonder who picked the scripts or brought them to him. I have hope gor his upcoming Netflix drama The Sound of Magic/Annasumanara since it is being produced by Netflix and has Hwang Inyeop in it but I hope this one also turns out well since the plot seems decent but then again you never now it might fall victim to the curse of a great start and bad ending

Is no one gonna talk about how weird it is that they cast a 14 year old as the female lead and 23 year olds as her love interests?? Like her age is fine because she is playing a teenager but...if they were gonna do that why couldn't they have cast male leads that were around the same age instead of 23 year old grown men?? I'm sure Woohyun and Sungyeol must've felt weird about the age gap and having to play dudes who are fighting over a 14 year old 😟 Saeron is a talented actress so thats probably why seh kanded the role but you can't tell me they couldn't have found takented actors that were also around her age. And if they wanted this to be an idol drama there were plenty of idols back then that were still in their teens that they could have cast instead or if they were so set on having Infinite members they could have just cast and an actress closer to their ages.

I actually enjoy this a lot more than I tbought it would. I like that it has simple family conflicts and not some over dramatic or super evil antagonists. It's refreshing and although not super complex, enjoyable nonetheless. It's a great drama to just relax at the end of the day & binge watch or watch daily. My favorite characters in order are Moran = In Seo = Da Bal = Sol = Geu Roo -> Si Woon -> Min Hee. My only qualms are that I wish the writers sped up the progress of each potential couple a little bit faster and also did something that made the the brothers a lot more likeable and less pathetic (minus sangmin, I don't have that much of a problem with him, he is getting better & growing on me). I originally started watching this when the first eps were out at the same time as Revolutionary Sisters but dropped it because it didn't seem that interesting and I liked Revolutionary Sisters more but now I dropped RS for this lol (I wasn't a fan pf where the plot was at/going).

Title Revolutionary Sisters Spoiler
I wish their Aunt (bongja) didn’t turn out to be a mistress to Ye Seul's dad. It almost made me not like her but then I realized that he literally strung her along and played with her feelings for DECADES and he was practically all she had after being abused & neglected by her mother and mistreated by her sister (the dead wife/mom) . I also hate it because she gets along so well with Ye Seul and could be a good mother figure to him but he knows his father cheated on his mom & blames that om her getting sick and absolutely despises the woman his father cheates with so if he ever finds out it was Bong Ja he would be heartbroken and furious.

Title Revolutionary Sisters Spoiler
Also I'm confused, what happened to the twin babies that Ye Seul was raising?? Are they actually his babies? Did the mother finally come back for them?? There was literally no mention of them until the 7th episode when Gwang Shik told her Aunt that he is a father of twins. And when Ye Seul was talking about his father's grandson he didn’t say anything or mention anything about the twins.

Title Revolutionary Sisters Spoiler
All 3 sisters are terrible amd annoying. The only one that is tolerable is Gwang Shik and I would like her even she had a spine instead of letting her trash husband and his family keech off of her and for going along with her sister's even when she knows its wrong. The only people I'm rooting for is Ye Seul & the father. I want Ye Seul to be happy and successful and I want the father to reveal the truth about hjs wife si the daughters can realize how dumb they are. Gwang Nam is selfish and obviously holds resentment against her mother (who mind you forced her to get an abortion, put her on a pedestal & basically tried to live through her and constantly borrowed large amounts of money from her) but instead she takes it out on her father who has done nothing but work hard for the family. I'm not saying he is perfect but his family being upset that his wife didn’t bear a son or him not being there as often because he was working is NOT in any way a reason for them to hate him amd treat him so terribly. Also Gwang Nam neglects her husband and all she does all day is spend his money on herself and doesn't care about him at all. I'm not saying she should abide by the dumb dutiful wife role but a marriage is supposed to be EQUAL not one person mooching off of the other. She doesn't work or contribute anything to the household and there is literally no reason for her to stay home all day she's not raising kids, she doesnt have a job that requires or allows her to work from home and she is able bodied & perfectly healthy, AND educated so there isn't a reason for her to be acting like a spoiled princess and spending her days making herself pretty with someone else's hard earned money. That bejng said I still don't think it was right that Byunho cheated on her and I honestly didn't think that was where the story was going. I was hoping that he would realize he like Ms. Shin/Maria and finally tell Gwang Nam how unhappy he is & would divorce her and live happily with a family and Maria but instead he got drunk and cheated and then thought it would be perfectly fine to live 2 lives. Like I can't tell of he still feels anythibg for Gwang Nam or not because if he doesn't thej he should just divorce her and then he could register his son's birth but if he does then he is using Gwang Nam for his own romantic needs and using Maria for emotional needs and for his dream of having a child.

Joonyoung and Ranju are so cute I'm gonna cry. I wouldn't even mind if the whole show became centered around them instead
