Absolutely amazing drama. So emotional from start to finish. I do wish the last couple of minutes of the last episode had been extended. Seemed kind of rushed. But still an amazing show.
I've just finished it and I did like it a lot. The production value and OST were great. I also really liked the dynamic between Toma and Sanekawa. I just wished they hadn't changed Sanekawa's character mid-season. It didn't make sense to me to have him be so invested in organ transplantation only for him to become obsessed with power, become a professor, and then director while disregarding his whole motive for helping patients who need the transplants. It also broke up the chemistry between him and Toma. I also did not agree with how they handled Toma's character at the end. He should have stayed at Kosei Memorial and helped change Japan's medical system there, despite the pressures the hospital was facing at that moment. He left everything behind, and as someone else said in their review, it was a selfish decision. If they hadn't shown him much older at a different hospital in the final scene, they probably could've made another season since the scene with him and Shoko implied a possible romance. I also would've loved to have seen him team up again with Sanekawa. The liver transplant operation scene in episode 4 with them was exciting to watch.
The production value of the operation scenes was also top-notch. And speaking of those, I did notice that the Sony GEM version of this show has edited operation scenes compared to the JPTVTS version. I guess those were too graphic for them to air.
My favorite character was definitely Sanekawa until they changed him. I was so hoping he would've shown up to help Toma during the mayor's surgery and reconsider his decision in becoming a director.
But overall, I did really enjoy this show and the acting from both leads.
Hi dumb question, was there a romance in it or did they cut it?
No there’s no romance in the show. Some thought there was an implied romance between Seto and Shindo, but it’s more of a close friendship between doctors than anything romantic.
I'm biased towards Eguchi-san so he gets my vote. :)
I agree that he’s very handsome. I’ve watched so many of his dramas and movies. I did know that he’s going to star in a drama in the spring - “Head-Hunter” I think it’s called.
Happy to support this great and informative site! I love coming here and browsing for recommendations on what to watch next, as well as keeping certain drama pages updated.
I wish this was subbed in English, but it's pretty rare for WOWOW dramas to be subbed. I've watched it raw now and it's pretty good. I like Sato-kun's acting.
This drama was well done. I was sold within 30 seconds of listening to the soundtrack. Love the opening theme. All of the cast were well chosen for their roles and it was well acted. I'm actually glad it didn't delve too much on the romance side, although a part of me was hoping for it. Definitely re-watchable at least for me. The story was solid. I had never heard of Kimura Takuya before this, but I second most on here that he was superb in this.
This drama was really good overall. I liked Kira's role and how she juggled both work and family. Didn't care for the babysitter plot though. LOVE the theme song "Cheer Up The Summer."
I've recently become a huge fan of this guy, and by recently I mean since 2014 when I saw the Rurouni Kenshin films. I had been watching for Sato Takeru, but I was drawn to this guy and the way he played Saito was brilliant. I then started watching some of his other stuff, and needless to say I've fallen for him.
I've now watched so much of his stuff, most of it on this list and I don't plan on stopping. I'm surprised that Kyumei Byoto 24 Ji (Emergency Room 24 Hours) wasn't higher on this list since he's the star of that show and was in it for 4 seasons! (I'm still hoping there will be a sixth season with him returning as Shindo-sensei.)
The production value of the operation scenes was also top-notch. And speaking of those, I did notice that the Sony GEM version of this show has edited operation scenes compared to the JPTVTS version. I guess those were too graphic for them to air.
