everybody chill. mindset people, mindset. keep calm and don't mind the SML too much. he needs to be the villain to highlight the hero and his suffering, and the rest of the cliches we know in dramas. besides, only the 3 of them were reborn at the same time, it only makes sense he'll be the bad guy so the 2 leads can have a happy ending. right????? let's do this till the 40th episode. ok? jia you! jia you! lol.

story wise - it isn't bad. it's actually very easy to resonate with, especially those who are couples. im not complaining though. i love everyone in the drama even SRQ. i guess, if you are one of those who read the book, you might complain about the adaptation. however, you may have observed that the teleplay (like screenplay for movies) is noticeably messy. they've already wrapped this up. i think. so i guess there's no more room for improvement. :(

and that's why we have different drama genres. it is to primarily cater to various preferences. Concerning TV as a medium to tell great stories, i guess the industry stopped using film and tv as a medium for creative art forms as early as 15 years ago. if something has been made for public consumption and mainstream watching, it is bound to be influenced and motivated by income and revenue. if you want great stories, wuxia is still a stand-out genre for tv, and of course, don't forget the Cannes for films.

wow!!! i was actually wondering what's the whole point of that scene and coming here to read the comments, i became even more confused. now, i somehow understood. haven't read the novel but i also noticed this even from the earliest episodes. the adaptation wasn't so tightly sewn together. it shouldn't have been like that since twas based on a book. but i guess, creative license reigns supreme here. it doesn't matter if it was done right, but now i understand the backlash. thanks for the enlightenment. and pls continue to share your thoughts here. we need it. lol

Based on your observations stated above, IMHO, it's fair to say that the drama industry knew that themes like that (those mentioned by you) are what sells- all the time. and primarily the reason why the industry keeps churning out these types of dramas. if a drama turns out to be on a different theme and trajectory from the book, then most definitely, it was adapted in such a way to generate lots of money for investors. yes, most romance genres are written by female writers, but since it's a work of fiction their creativity is most definitely motivated also by economic factors. they wouldn't write something that wouldn't sell if they needed to keep their jobs for the long haul. right?

lord help all the women out there if a man gazes at them like zhang linghe does to jin mai on screen. still on the early eps. lotssss to catch up and the comments are on fire!!! lol.

wow! i was just randomly looking for dramas of zhang ruo yun because of joy of life. i did not expect to get hooked on this drama. the theme is so close to my heart and moved me a lot of times in different episodes. i hope more people get to watch this. this is something extraordinary. im including this in the same category as Destined and Blossoms in Adversity for dramas that inspired me.

thank you youku for this magnificent piece of work. this is only one of the few dramas out there that i will remember even its supporting characters' performances. everybody did such an amazing job!!!! from Yuanbai, to Shuran, to wen ji and lu ji. meeen! they made this drama unforgettable. and the musical score, it was so well-done. the amazing score highlighted every scene that needed a particular emotional emphasis. and that made watching it even more beautiful. it was simply on-point. now that its over, im waiting for princess royal next.

ep35 is hands-down her best yet. she perfectly exemplified the vulnerabilities and weaknesses of a woman in her position in such a sticky situation. you can really see and feel her desperation, frustration, fear, and anxiety in that dialogue with Shen Yurong. Bravo to her!! i felt her emotions too while watching her on screen!

im so conflicted. who would've thought that my heart would grieve for Wanning for all the right reasons despite her wickedness?? episode 35, why are you so mean to me. my feminine emotions are in a mess rn.

i love the cinematography and color-grading. actually, that was the first thing i noticed apart from the bgm, which sounded weird on some parts.. nway, that's just me. . :) i haven't seen any previous adaptations so the first few eps are quite good. i hope the edits will be good. im waiting for mind-blowing camera movts and cool edits for the fight scenes. i really hope they will capture those parts so well.

i haven't really noticed these details till you mentioned it. as far as characterization goes, that particular scene, a mere 5seconds if i may say so, is irrevocably moving. it pretty much sums up what a father must feel after acknowledging all the cruelty his family has suffered under one woman. so sad.
