Does anyone else think they contradict they "time traveling premise" in the last episodes? Because if…
You make a very good argument. The complexity of the time warp and the walkie talkie could have been explored more, but it might not have been possible due to the limit of 16 episodes for this show. After all, it took them several episodes to get the main characters get used to the situation and solve the mystery why the walkie talkie was the time warp communication device. The show would have been quite longer if they tried explaining how the walkie-talkie worked and the time warp itself, which might have deterred viewers due to its complicated nature.
Maybe there was a purpose to retaining their memories. After all, JH plans on bringing out the mastermind behind the corruption and to do that, he needs to work with the other main characters & they would have needed to retain their memories to help him with his mission. Another explanation/counterargument to your theory would be Cha Soo Hyun, who remembered her old memories and altered ones. JH promises her that he will be back in the altered/new version of the memories and because of that change, she was able to fully believe that the past could be changed because she had the old version of her memories to compare with.
I rather enjoy the questions and concerns that you posed because it allows me to engage with the story on a deeper level so thank you for even bringing it up in the first place. :]
As someone who has never liked police dramas, this was quite enjoyable, but I had a few problems with it unlike…
Oooh ok yeah, I totally know what you mean. There wasn't much actual cooperation between HY and JH in solving the cases, which probably would have made the show more interesting. That last episode really was riding on the "fate" wave like you said. I think it was interesting though how just the smallest change in the past could have such large ramifications. After all, the only thing that changed was the person who told JH to avoid the hospital. I usually think that changing the past and seeing the effects happen (due to fate) go hand in hand so that's how I would understand why there was such a heavy emphasis on fate towards the end.
Ha ha ha very true. The time limit was scripted by the writers, but also the explanation for it makes sense if that's how quickly he died. I would have imagined that a stomach wound would have been a slow painful death so the time limit could have been extended that way.
It would have been interesting to see how the story would fold out if the time limit was extended. Not only would JH and HY would have more time to work together to change things and figure out their situation, the consequences of changing the past might be much larger because the time limit restricted how much information they could have passed onto each other so only the changes that occurred were sort of small-scaled.
Do you plan on watching season 2 of signal if one comes out?

Hi! If you don't mind, I would like to address your concerns about the series. Police dramas do tend to be episodic because the fundamental nature of that genre is solving crimes so that genre in and of itself has multiple "sub-plots" to match the nature of solving many crimes. That is a characteristic that tends to be naturally attributed to crime and police dramas. Signal, like you said, could be seen as enjoyable due to its ability to stretch the stories of each particular crime into multiple episodes and it tends to end in a cliffhanger, which adds to its addictive character. Moreover, this drama does a fantastic job of creating an overarching complex plot that connects all the episodes together (from solving the mystery behind their communication, righting the wrongs of the past, and uncoverring corruption to give justice where it is due). Their brief moments of communication adds to that even if it's just a small change into what is "fated" to happen.
I definitely agree that some of the villains were one dimensional , but I think they did a good job of adding more depth to Ahn Chi Soo's character. As for the Congressman, the Superintendent, and the gangster guy...they were quite flat as characters. It might have also been due to the fact that the focus was on the main characters and the emotional rollercoaster that was happening in their lives.
As for the lack of communication, I don't know if you remember but in the earlier episodes, HY mentioned that the time limit of communication was a minute on the walkie-talkie, which would have made it difficult for them to cooperate as much. Add that onto the urgency of the cases that they were working on (whether it was preventing more victims or crimes from happening or letting the criminal get away), they were in a pinch. In some of the episodes, a lot of situations came up in which they had to put aside the case that they were working on together in order to sort things out like when Cha Soo Hyun got hurt and they had a lead on where the burgular was spotted so they had to chase after him or when Jae Han was going to meet with the prosecuter but the kidnapping case came up etc. Trying to effectively communicate while 1) with the short time frame to talk, 2) wrapping their heads around what is happening and how this communication is possible, and 3) doing what they do while being in their present situation and doing their job is incredibly difficult. Hopefully, if there is a season two, the communication that you mentioned was lacking will be more prevalent. :)

The thing is Hae Young was able to retain his memories after the past had changed for each of the cases he worked on. The entire "time traveling" is more like a weird time warp in which the characters directly involved with the communication can retain their memories of the old version of the past before it changed into a new past. It's a little complicated but in the new past, all the things you said (going to the police station and getting the radio) didn't happen because if it did, then it would just be a continuous cycle of what had happen from episodes one to fifteen until something had changed and broken the cycle. Because the past was rewritten, Hae Young has memories he never fully experienced in the first place (the entire being together with his family again). He could have become a police officer because Jae Han, who had solved and proven his brother's innocence, was a hero of sorts to him and so he wanted to be like his hero and become a police officer. In any case, you are right. Changing the past will change the future, but that doesn't mean that the memories of what had happen previously are lost by the main characters. If my explanation is too confusing or you have anymore questions, I would be happy to answer them. :)
The only reason I made it through this movie alive is because I believed that Nao and Akiyama are happily married and she is at home pregnant with his baby and therefore, cannot participate in the game.

Are you going to keep this account on MDL? Because I would seriously be depressed if I have to lose all forms of communication with my best friend. I'm missing you already. D'X I'll stay on MAL for as long as I can in hopes that I will see you again someday. You too! Read lots of mangas and watch many animes and dramas, so that when you come back on MAL we can talk much much more again. I love you lots Arkiu. *sobs* I hope you manage to resolve whatever problems you are facing in the real world.

Thank you for having all those beautiful pictures and gifs on your profile. I had to go to the hospital due to the excessive blood loss I received from just glancing...GLANCING at those images. But don't worry, I won't charge you for the medical bills. XD
Erika Toda is truly an amazing actress. LOVE her in Liar Game. Definitely my favorite Japanese actress <3 Or…
I think she portrayed an adorable Kanzaki Nao in Liar Game. Personally, I felt that she acted better in that first season in comparison to the second season and Final Stage movie. Her chemistry with Matsuda Shota is undeniable (todashota.tumblr.com). I want to see them both act in a romantic comedy where they are the main couple so badly!!! <3
