I took up My Ahjussi when the subs for Something in the Rain weren't coming out :/. I never planned on watching…
From what I can understand, you're circuitously saying that Something in the Rain doesn't deserve the ratings it gets and My Ahjussi deserves more.
I'm just saying people probably like each for different reasons.
Every single drama that comes out doesn't have to be a "new standard of quality". Real things aren't new. Something in the Rain is supposed to be about real life and real people. I can't say My Ahjussi nor Something in the Rain is a "new standard of quality". I simply watch what I watch because I find it enjoyable. I don't think most people who watch dramas watch it to analyze the different aspects and its impact on society and future dramas.

After all, entertainment is entertainment. The messages it delivers doesn't have to be hard hitting. I actually think the lessons delivered in sweeter, subtler forms the most persuasive.

If you have to compare "hysteria", it isn't as if My Ahjussi doesn't have it as well. Something in the Rain has Jung Hae-In who is hot right now. My Ahjussi has IU.

Jung Hae-In has achieved a new level of fame because of this drama. IU came to My Ahjussi with a very well established fandom already. If anything, shouldn't My Ahjussi have a leg up from all these fans? Furthermore, what is so wrong with using an up and coming actor who is popular and can also act.

You wrote : "are u watching this because Jun Hae In and the couple they made , the rest of you say is pure Bul...shT this is a good drama the other a jewel."

I can't understand the depth to which you are saying now because I can't even understand half of what you are trying to say from the one run on sentence seen above.

I'm not trying to say one show is better than the other. While Pretty Noona may seem more cliche than My Ahjussi, I still believe it is a great drama. I also think My Ahjussi is a good drama as well.

Thank you for your "critic view" contributing to both of these shows.

Maybe you're right, because it is hae in's first lead role and he nailed it way beyond viewers expectation. But…
i think he's a troll...

I'm actually a big fan of Son Ye-Jin, so I was going to watch this drama no matter what. I was never a fan of Jung Hae-In before this.
Jung Hae-In was a nice surprise. I hadn't seen any of his other works which he had a major role in. I think they both do really well in this work. They don't overshadow each other. The whole drama is quite balanced. Son Ye-Jin's character portrays the role of a common female worker in society. Jung Hae-In is a nice dose brightness. Besides them being a couple, the other characters - the traditional mother who wishes the best for her children in a very hypocritical way to the many sexist coworkers - all add to the realism of this drama. I wouldn't say this drama is built on just the main couple alone. In my opinion, this is a well made drama as a whole, from the supporting characters, setting, cinematography, directing to the writing. I think the appeal for many is more than just the couple. Workplace sexism is a big issue that is portrayed in this drama which is very telling of the times. This and many other aspects draw people in.

This drama isn't just a fluff piece for shipper hearts.

For me, I can't really place this drama or My Ahjussi into fixed categories of good and bad.
I also don't understand what you are trying to say....that Pretty Noona is "Bul...shT" and My Ahjussi is a "jewel"?

I think they're both good. I just watch them for different reasons. Pretty Noona is calming for me, and it feels so real. My Ahjussi is more "edgy" for me in that I feel to an extent their extreme, trying situations. They both do well in their respective parts.

If you aren't satisfied that My Ahjussi isn't getting enough attention....well you can't blame it on Something in the Rain. They don't even air on the same days, and the audience brackets are distributed differently for both shows. My Ahjussi gets more of the 20s demographic and Pretty Noona gets more of the 30s and 40s demographic. So....I don't know what else to say as someone who has seen both shows.

If you want me to say it, I prefer Pretty Noona more. It's just my preference.

(Kind of an off-topic here) I've recently been liking binge-watching melodramas, and now, I want to catch up with…
I took up My Ahjussi when the subs for Something in the Rain weren't coming out :/. I never planned on watching My Ahjussi, but it really surprised me. IU hadn't impressed me much before, but it seems that she has improved.

Both Something in the Rain and My Ahjussi are considered melodramas, but it's hard to compare since they're like different flavors. In my opinion, Something in the Rain is more subtle about the trials and tribulations in life. It isn't exactly glossed over, nor is it obsessed over. The shi*t that people have to face isn't as centered upon as it is in My Ahjussi. Something in the Rain brings a little more warmth and hope into life. As for My Ahjussi, it focuses on the extreme pain that forces people to grow up too early and the "dysfunction" in society that results from it.
I can't say with certainty since I put My Ahjussi on hold once subs for Something in the Rain started coming out regularly. I think I'm on episode 6. if that matters.

Something in the Rain is definitely about life, and you feel that the stories of the characters could be the story of a friend or someone you know when watching it. Office sexism and general female oppression is shown, and highly relevant in light of the MeToo movement. It's definitely more suited for "middle-aged" or more mature tastes. If you don't have such disposition, you might find the drama slow or boring. I'm not even near my 30's, but I enjoy dramas like this. My Ahjussi feels more popular among younger audiences since the plot is a bit more dramatic, and the pain of the characters might resonate a bit more with the many young people facing the hard road ahead when life feels unfair.

My advice is, if you are in a depressed mood and want to find someone who feels the same way, watch My Ahjussi. You'll definitely be able to find characters in which to share how tired you are with life. If you aren't too sad and want to watch a heart-warming drama that will bring some hope back into life, watch Something in the Rain.
