Honestly, I don't really get what people mean when they say there's no romance or that the romance is lacking. The romance is actually done very well. What exactly are you expecting, in the end? The chemistry is just right, and at the same time, the plot keeps moving forward the way it should.
Romance doesn't automatically mean there have to be intimate scenes in every episode. The hugs, the moments between A'Yao and A'Li, their little arguments and bickering—all of that counts too. If what you're looking for is smut, then you should clearly be watching something else.
