News I genuinely wasn’t prepared for how GOOD this drama would be!!!!
The Early Spring is the kind of romance that reminds you why chemistry matters so much. You can have the prettiest actors, the biggest budget and the most dramatic storyline, but if you don’t believe two people are actually drawn to each other, none of it works. Here? I believed every second.
Jing Boran and Sun Qian are ridiculously good together. Their chemistry doesn’t feel forced or manufactured for the camera. It’s in the way they look at each other, the awkward silences, the arguments, the physical closeness, the jealousy, the tenderness. The romance actually feels adult. Messy, intimate, frustrating, passionate and very human.
And THANK YOU to this drama for understanding that getting together isn’t the end of a love story. Relationships change. People hurt each other. Careers get in the way. Timing matters. Feelings can be real even when two people aren’t emotionally ready for each other yet.
I also loved watching Shang Zhitao grow. She isn’t there simply to become “the male lead’s girlfriend.” She has ambitions, makes mistakes, learns, becomes stronger and eventually understands what she wants from her own life. Luan Nian has his own emotional walls to break down, and Jing Boran plays that restrained vulnerability so well.
Visually, the drama is beautiful without feeling artificial, and there’s something almost cinematic about many of the quieter scenes. Sometimes a look between the leads says more than an entire page of dialogue.
But above everything else, this drama has FEELING. That’s what got me.
I’ve watched plenty of romances that were technically good and forgotten them a week later. The Early Spring is different. Certain scenes, expressions and moments between these two stay in your head long after the episode ends.
If you like mature romance, insane chemistry, complicated relationships, career growth, longing, intimacy and two flawed people slowly learning how to love each other properly…
Do yourself a favor and watch this.
One of my favorite modern C-dramas in a long time.
10/10. No hesitation.
