After watching 8 episodes, I realised that it lacks something so I decided to rewatch GGS. I honestly skipped the cybersecurity parts in GGS so I don’t mind if they changed it to robotics since the viewers can engage themselves more that way. Others may find the timeline confusing but guys, remember, it’s a SPIN-OFF. Just like what Noth3re from the comment below, it’s neither a prequel, sequel or season 2. It can be a stand-alone drama that has some references from GGS.
In Appledog’s time, I think they are focusing more on the romance based on the first 8 episodes. Although I love the small interactions of the two in GGS, they did a good job in recasting Appledog. From a GGS viewer and NON-NOVEL READER perspective, I thought Appledog and Hang Shanyan was of the same age but I saw some tweets that she’s only 2-3 yrs older (mid-20s) than Wu Bai (early-20’s). In GGS, they were trying to emphasize the age gap between Tong Nian and Hang Shanyan, as well as giving the “retired professional vibes”, so they opted for more matured actors. Both actress did a great job in portraying their roles, GGS-Appledog who’s more mature and confident, and a DT-Appledog who’s currently lost even after 3 years of retirement.
As for those who were complaining on the change of personality of Appledog... we are only on the first 8 episodes. One ep clearly shows that Appledog is still lost after her retirement and still want’s to be on the field. She’s basically trying to dodge her original dream to be more practical. Thus, a fake happy-go-lucky persona who’s trying not to crumble inside. Her current state is actually very relatable. She’s currently working to achieve that professional and confident GGS-Appledog, and I’m hoping that she delivers or else I would be disappointed.
As for Grunt, I love Wang An Yu but the Grunt he plays is playful. I do not know if that would eventually change to a mean GGS-Grunt due to some circumstances (perhaps due to relationship problems).
The drama is still unfolding, it’s not even on the half yet.. the current timeline (8 eps) is before GGS so all of the characters are still working on themselves. We are only on the first year of K&K’s establishment (from what I understand). I haven’t seen the whole K&K as a team but I am hoping that they could at least match the chemistry of GGS-Team K&K.
THE ONLY THING THAT I’M CURRENTLY DISAPPOINTED WAS THE FLASHBACKS FROM THE TEAM SOLO. They were 5 and Hang Shan Yan is the top legendary. They could’ve sticked to that and gave Li Xian a support/minor role instead of a guest.
Is that why Solo was placed as a top player instead of Han Shangyan? I was shocked when I saw the top chart and Han Shangyan was 2nd.
I just want to clarify something, is Solo really trying to pursue Appledog? If I were to base it from GGS, it does not seem like it.
