A disappointing series

TRASHY REVIEW ALERT - Fangs of Fortune failed to impress this cdrama fan. The plot was difficult to follow, with side stories back ones especially blurring the lines between the real plot and the sub plots/ I have also never seen a series where so many people cried so much or had so many tears in their eyes - what was the purpose of all that water ? cos it was a poor attempt at invoking emotional response time after time after time after time...it was that tedious. Just when I was going to be forgiving the story line would revert to another backstory about a sword, a pot of almond cheese event, a plant, a walnut that dropped on the ground like OMG, back stories galore in this series that deviate from the main plat ONCE AGAIN. The actors and actresses played their roles OK, could have done better with a more solid storyline that viewers would follow with them and that the characters could be developed over the 34 eps. THE GOOD - the CGI backddrops and effects were splendid, as with the more darker tinged cinematography - and the costumes splendid as well, however despite all that finesse of the series, the lack lustre storyline and purpose frsutrated this seasoned viewer. Neo Hou, Chen Xiao, and co did the best they could to make the series work with their co-stars Chen Du Ling /Tian Ja Rui ... Yan An surprised me as the gorgeous evil one of this series, he played it so well but Overall , a disappointment for this viewer.

mmmm needs better plot stories

I was engrossed in this story because it looked better than other 'tropey' cdramas I watch....SPOILER ALERT!!!!.....the FL is always in trouble, needs help or is getting beaten up, and the ML always always always is LATE TO HER RESCUE....Scriptwriters need to carry an epic looking drama on right to the end with some consideration for repetition, plot plausibility and relatedness - plot ingenuity - and so on as an english speaking country fan of CDRAMA only a few have cut it for me in terms of quality screenwriting and production - TenMiles of Peach Blossoms is one...Legend of Fuyao another ...Princess Agents too, Back from the Brink, The Blood of Youth too and unforgettably - The Untamed another....Wulin Heroes, as well....I got tired of the female lead always getting hurt and then being rescued late by her hero/husband

Disappointment

WARNING!!! - This review is scathing on a few levels - production, storyline, pace, and acting....
Im a huge Yang Yang fan but Immortal Ascension was not one of his best efforts here's why, the focus was on Yang Yang and not the blending of all actors into the plots and subplots, YY's character was overused and glaringly obvious from the start. Other characters never got a chance to develop and kept the plots and subplots at a generic level - cos the camera was always on YY???- visually i liked it like all XanXia series - but this series lacked good storyline to back it up since the beginning shows why YY goes on an ascension training journey - even tho some good fighting scenes in the series, by ep 24 I was done with just seeing YY always on the cameras view....The pace also was soooooo slow and generic too...compared to Shadow Love with Ryan Cheng and Song Yi and The Wanted Detective , The Legend of Female General all kept you engrossed in the series because there was a grip hanging after each episode....(the signs of a good director and production team). So, in ending, IMMORTAL ASCENSION the series needs its own ascension journey to come up to the standards of the aforementioned hits....Shadow Love, The Wanted Deetective and The Legend of A Female General, and many many others to name here....

Form your own conclusion

Yea disappointed with this one ALOT, FL/ML got lost in the plots and couldn't find their way out of them, nothing really positive to say about this, a shame cos both leads i like and they were my draw card - good acting, good looking, good characters to develop but the storyline went ga-ga....screen writes think about the diversity of your audience, - don't make plots that go off on tangents and take us the viewers down rabbit holes cos they are so hard to come back from....sequential logic makes good movie making....nah moved on from Ep 14 saw the uselessness of staying longer with the unattractive foreseeable non-sensical plots coming...I had to go to Ep40 to see what would happen and the nemesis should have been gone long ago ?????

A drama for single women raising their children

The first thing that grabbed me about this series was the determination the mother has for her children, its like how many if not all mothers would have reacted with 6 children to raise alone - she is a force of nature.

the second thing I liked about this drama was the stories especially the first romance between daughter 3 and Chia was great and has the greatest end

the 3rd thing was the way in which the stories unfold quite naturally through the circumstances of each of the individuals in them and how the daughters' choices of husbands evolves into a main plot story too....

Am at episode 20 writing this so am really very pleased with it so far....

Some clever drama writing in this series....
