Thrilling drama that eerily mirrors life

Stellar cast, catchy OST, and a gripping plot that makes you unable to stop watching, SKY Castle is simply intense.

Intense in the plot, in the themes, and insane plot twists. The most relatable drama that accurately depicts the pressures of school, society, and family. Each character is well-rounded with their own goals and motivations. Each episode is unskippable as the plot builds and the pressure escalates.

Honestly, it's almost a hard watch because it is simply too relatable. None of the characters are black and white, but you can understand why they act the way they do. The pressure to do well and attain approval from and for your family is something anyone can understand. The intermix of thriller, comedy, and drama is an addicting mix, making every episode unmissable as secrets unravel so shocking that even the audience will be left dumbfounded.

So boring that I struggle to remember enough to write this review

A run-of-the-mill cold CEO x headstrong employee drama. More comedy than romance.

Honestly, I liked it more when the couple were enemies than when they became lovers. It became such a bore when they got together because the only thing interesting was when they were fighting each other. I grapple with the idea that it's even suppose to be a love story. They were more like siblings that always butt heads.

It was just BORING. All of the cliches but none of the chemistry to warrant it. They had the rom-com king and queen as the leads but forgot that the biggest part of a rom-com is the romance.

The fluffiest and heartwarming rom-com

I think I got cavities from how sweet this love story is. MinMin and BonBon are simply too cute, it's almost sickening. I love that it's the he falls first and harder AND HARDER trope. He is the OG loser-in-love. Their relationship dynamic is hilarious and their chemistry is off the charts.

One of the best rom-coms, there are so many hilarious moments that will have you in tears. I would say it's light-hearted but oh my god, that serial killer twist almost gave me a heart attack. It gave me whiplash from how there can literally be hearts on the screen and the next, there's this crazy creep kidnapping women. Don't get me wrong, it added this spice to the story that made it more interesting but DAMN, give a girl a warning.

Masterful and refreshing adaptation

The absolute BEST Boys Over Flowers adaptation. All the cliches of the tale without the massive cringe and toxic red flags.

Gorya and Thyme are easily the best part of the drama. Each stands strong individually in their personality. Gorya is the determined, headstrong FL who doesn't take any BS and Thyme is this dumb but well-meaning puppy in-love who actually has character growth. Their chemistry is adorable and it's cute to see how they went from enemies to lovers.

It's like the drama takes the very classic story of the arrogant, rich guy with the stubborn, poor girl, picked out all the flaws, and transformed it into this coming-of-age masterpiece.

A time loop transmigration that felt like an ACTUAL time loop

For a short C-drama, it actually was a solid drama. Well-rounded characters, high-tech visuals, and a solid plot line with high stakes.

The cast was amazing. You can't help but care for each of the characters as the story continued. The chemistry of the FL and ML was insane. I love the trope of determined, spunky FL constantly fighting against fate with the scary ML who always says he's not getting involved in her shenanigans but does EVERY time.

The biggest flaw is as the plot progressed, it truly felt like a time loop to the audience. As the FL kept going back to the start, the same plot points kept being revisited without the plot holes being resolved. New "rules" were added and suddenly bypassed. The stakes are world-ending and all of sudden, it was actually never that serious. The drama should have wrapped the ending much sooner than it actually did.

Cringy and convoluted adaptation

Expectations were already high since this is my favorite manhwa. Not only did this drama drop the ball; they took a knife, stabbed it repeatedly, pushed it through a shredder, lit a fire and took a dump on it.

The plot went completely sideways when they decided the drama needed the cliches of a typical historical drama; tyrant king forcing the cold duke to obey his senseless orders and turning the actual FL into the antagonist. That was most disappointing since I loved the friendship between the transmitigated FL and original FL, which is already a rare trope.

It's supposed to be a warm love story. The romance of the spunky, a little crazy Ripley who always charges head first and thinks entirely with her heart and the reserved Duke Zeronis who can't help hopelessly falling completely and utterly in love with her. Instead we got a cringy and helpless FL, face-cards only ML, and annoying side characters who add nothing to the story.

Don't even call it an adaptation of The First Night with the Duke, it does not even deserve that respect.

Greatest zombie thriller

Grisly dark, action-packed drama filled with insane plot twists that have you on the edge of your seat.

Prince Yung is incredibly easy to root for. He's righteous and actually wants best for his people. He's truly a prince guiding his macabre band of followers to survival and his fight for power. He's a speck of light in a pool of nasty, evil trash. The sheer amount of horrible people he's encounters and their actions disguised as survival is enraging. From the corrupt officials to power-hungry court, it's morbidly satisfying to watch the cosmic zombie justice come for them.

All the characters are well-rounded and add much to the story. The drama depicts the dark realism of a zombie outbreak without the nausea. Overall, an incredibly morbid and sickening drama that somehow you can't look away from.

Chaotic fun with intensely beautiful visuals

One of the most unique and fun dramas I've ever watched! Intense visuals, chaotic plot lines, and absurd humor.

The leads' partnership is such a beautiful thing to witness. They truly treat each other as equals and in a entirely strange new world, they only have each other. It's easy to see how their relationship developed into love especially with the ML's tender eyes. Zhang San truly carried the drama with his duality as the mad tyrant and silly jokester.

Honestly, I felt no butterflies with their romance which was weird because I love the he fell first AND harder trope. The chemistry was there but it felt underdeveloped. I didn't swoon or cry. Their love just wasn't the focal point of the story. It was a fight for survival and going against the script, not romance.

Most hilarious and chaotic historical K-drama

A riveting historical drama that has you on the edge of your seat with each episode. It is widely entertaining and I love the relationship balance of the main leads. Bong Hwan is unapologetically herself and when the King fell in love, he was like a infatuated clueless puppy.

Internal palace drama is intense and the concept of the King and Queen teaming up, unlike other dramas where it's the opposite, is satisfying to see. The humor is top-notch and when the stakes are high, you are definitely invested in the outcome.

The storyline is enthralling yet the ending was one of the worst I have ever watched. It's like you're running towards the finish line and instead of scoring, you turned around and did jumping jacks. It made no sense why the actual FL in the body would go back when the ML fell in love with her and her craziness? Otherwise, a fun drama to put on when you need a good laugh.

An extraordinary, chaotic fateful first love

Such a unique and unpredictable plot line guarantees that you are on the edge of your seat with each episode. Complex characters, mind-bending plot twists, and a touch of EVERY cliche from amnesia to historical royalty transforms this drama into a fun rollercoaster.

The stakes are high for spunky, peppy Dan-Oh as she chaotically attempts to change her fate. If she is the force pushing the story, Haru is the life given to it. He may be a quiet character, but his heartfelt eyes for Dan-Oh proves their chemistry.

Their romance is simply adorable. It's impossible not to root for them.

Entrancing visuals for the eyes and heart

The classic Cold ML x Naive FL trope, the soul switch was done well since it was easy to see who was in which body based off their quirky, cringy micro-expressions. It's adorable how obsessively protective Dongfang is of Orchid.

The biggest flaw is Orchid being horrifically embarrassing in the beginning. Her squeaky, baby voice along with her attempts of acting cute had me in tears. It was THAT bad. I understand it's due to her naive and pure persona, but it was agonizing to watch.

Overall, a feast for the eyes and heart. Intense face cards in magnetic landscapes with magical OSTs and beautiful VFX. The humor and angst is fierce, the moments of laughter are hearty and tears are gut-wrenching. Simply a magical and heartwarming fairytale.

A haunting tale of when a king falls in love

An incredibly heartbreaking but realistic portrayal of how it is to love a king in the Joseon era. Sorrowful OST, profound acting, and well-paced story line.

It's obvious that Deok-Im and Yi San are in love with each other but the palace politics and her desire to maintain independence are strong obstacles. When they ultimately did ended up together, it is not a celebration but a condemnation. There is an intense political plot drama, but their moments of romance are very sweet.

A humorous beginning that ended in such tragedy that I would cry even to this day. The tears would not end for the woman in love with a man who had everything but was not able to gave her the one thing she desired; himself.

Cinematic masterpiece that feels like truly finding jade

Slow-burn chemistry, rich backstories for well-rounded characters, catchy OSTs, and multi-layered plot that have the most insane and satisfying buildup. This drama has set a new standard for historical Chinese dramas.

The most defining aspect of this drama is the cinematography. Truly a feast for the eyes and heart. Yet, the visuals would have been nothing without the leads. Changyu's growth from butcher to the Flower-Adorned General is so satisfying to watch, she's unapologetically herself. And here comes Zheng, the ultimate downbad husband who's only soft for his wife. Their characters are so lovable. They moved me to tears in laughter and heartache.

It's rare to come across a drama that is perfect in all aspects. It truly felt like you were living the legend of Changyu and Zheng in their journey as the ultimate power couple who stands as pillars of justice in the Daiyin.

Ultimately, it is a tale of beauty. The beauty of love for friends, family and the fated one you will find in every lifetime. A story so beautiful that will leave you breathless until the last episode.

Story of the Ages

Insane palace politics with high stakes and a slow burn that absolutely slow burned but when it started to burn, it was like a raging inferno. Majestic OSTs paired with masterful storytelling of reincarnation, this is fight to take back one's own destiny.

Ning is just trying to redeem herself and get away from the morbid drama that caused the downfall of her last life, yet she is too smart and headstrong to stay out of it. She's an imperfect FL who's resentful, selfish, and ambitious but you can't help but root for her. It makes sense why everyone keeps falling for her because she's being her authentic self.

Here comes the star of the show, the batshit insane son of a bitch, Xi Wei. Never have I met such an unhinged and cunning character AND he's the ML. I love it. To me, it was so obvious that he had feelings for her from the beginning. He is definitely the fall first and harder, and never let go type. He just makes sense with Ning. Their insanity matches.

A breathtaking tale of revenge and redemption, not one episode was boring. While the romance was slow to develop, it made sense since both characters are too crafty to fall head in first. But believe me, once they (more so Xi Wei) took that first step, they dove off that cliff. Just craziness all around, one of my favorite dramas of all time.

Cheesy historical gender-bent Cinderella retelling

Gender-bent romance that is basically a more fluffy and cute Cinderella retelling.

Don't get me wrong, this drama is one of the better historical rom-coms wth many hilarious moments and a very cute romance between the crown prince & his eunuch. I really hate gender-bent romances but this trope was well done, though I wished the identity was revealed much earlier.

Great chemistry, it was like watching two puppies fall in love. The plot moved quick but it was layered well up until the ending. The curse of the last episode struck again. There was so much building up like Ra On's rebel father, the guard's hidden identity, and the court officials involvement in the Crown Prince mother's death yet everything was immediately solved. How can the stakes be high if it look less than 5 minutes of screen-time for it to be over with? I wish there were more episodes to flesh it out.

Overall, a fun watch with beautiful OSTs, heartfelt characters, and an incredibly adorable love story.
