The King of Haoling (aka the Emperor of Gao Xing / the Grand Emperor / the White Emperor) suspected that the person…
In the novel we don't see CX's conversation with the Grand Emperor (the one that makes him suspect that WXL might be XY) at all. CX just shows up at the clinic and tells XY that his master wants to meet her.
In episode 14, we see that CX tells the King of Haoling about the medical treatment that XY suggested for his arrow wound, her talent with poisons, and the fact that she planted a poisonous bug in him. Of course the King doesn't mention the manuals at that point - the very little he does say to CX is extremely vague and makes CX mistakenly think that WXL is the son of one of the princes who rebelled against the King of Haoling.
The part where the drama doesn't give us the necessary details is when it doesn't include XY and CX's conversation from chapter 22 (which occurs after she returns from her 37 years in the clam shell).
On the other hand, the novel also doesn't start by showing us CX and XY's childhood. As readers, we don't see Ah Heng giving the manuals to XY the way we do in the drama. The details of XY's childhood are scattered across conversations and flashbacks throughout the novel and we (the readers) have to piece them together. XY's conversation with CX is just one example. So in some ways the drama gives viewers more information than the novel, at least up front.
The King of Haoling (aka the Emperor of Gao Xing / the Grand Emperor / the White Emperor) suspected that the person…
Yes, it does seem like she lied (and XL called her out on it). But I'm not sure where she got the walnut and the bugs from. Perhaps she did meet an old lady who gave her the walnut and bugs, but lied about how she knew how to raise them (because she didn't want to tell XL about the manual).
Although the novel doesn't tell us what the manual said about the bugs, it does seem like XY only knew that they could be used to make another person feel her pain, how to raise them, and the spells that were needed to plant / transfer them. She really seems to have not been aware of what they were called and the other details about how they work.
You can always enjoy / torture yourself all over again with the novel while you wait. At least it's complete ^^
S1 ends part way through chapter 28.
Personally, I'd recommend reading it to the end. There are so many novel spoilers in all of the chat threads it might be best to just read them from the source first and that way you can participate fully in all the conversations without worrying about trying to avoid those spoilers. There will definitely be differences between the novel and S2, so there will still be an element of surprise. And with the spoilers you can prepare yourself for... certain things.
Yes lots things don’t understand…like how the haoling king suspect that is his daughter just listening cx…
The King of Haoling (aka the Emperor of Gao Xing / the Grand Emperor / the White Emperor) suspected that the person who planted the poisonous bug in CX (and then removed it) was XY because he knew that XY's mother had the Jiu Li Poison Voodoo Manual (which contained all of Jiu Li's spells about using poisons poisonous bugs) and the Sheng Nong Herb Manual in her possession before she died.
Jiu Li is the tribe / land where XY's biological father came from. XY's mother knew the Flame Emperor before he died because she and Qi Yo were poisoned (Qi Yo was poisoned first, and Ah Heng then gave herself the same poison) and went to the Flame Emperor to obtain the cure. Qi Yo was the Flame Emperor's one and only disciple. --- Chapter 22:
“Every time you mention voodoo you just glance over it, but how exactly did you learn to raise and plant a voodoo bug? And who taught you all the poison tricks you know?”
Xiao Yao asked “Can we talk secretly here?”
Zhaun Xu nodded and cast a protective spell barrier around them. Xiao Yao asked “So you know the Sheng Nong Herb Manual?”
“Of course, legend has it the Flame Emperor used his entire life to write that manual after testing every living herb in existence. The entire world wants that manual but after the Flame Emperor died it disappeared.”
“It was actually with my Mom. Do you remember when Grandmother and Grandfather were both ill and it was my Mom who was healing them.”
“Of course, but I always thought Auntie learned medicine from the court doctors.”
“I did as well and it was only later that I realized my Mom learned medicine from the Flame Emperor.”
“But….how could that be? Grandfather long wanted to exterminate the Sheng Nong Kingdom.”
“Who knows? Perhaps my Mom stole it.”
“Nonsense!” Many times Zhuan Xu’s respect for Xiao Yao’s mom greatly eclipsed her own.
“When Mom left me in Jade Mountain, around my neck was a jade container that held the Sheng Nong Herb Manual which taught my Mom all about medicines, but it also contained the Jiu Li Poison Voodoo Manual which contained all the spells about using poison and bugs. When the Royal Mother discovered it, she said both books were future catastrophes if people discovered it. She forced me to memorize both and then she destroyed it afterwards.” Xiao Yao remembered how she cried and sobbed and refused to talk with the Royal Mother afterwards for destroying what her mom left for her.
Xiao Yao said “Initially I tucked all that knowledge away in the back of my mind, but when I was captured by the Nine-tailed fox, I remembered the poison learnings. I knew I only had one chance to poison him so I was very careful, and even worried that the Voodoo King’s voodoo manual poisons were not deadly and discreet enough, and even used the Flame Emperor’s medical research to create more poisons.”
Xiao Yao waved her hands “My Mom left me those things likely wanting me to become a healer to ease the people’s suffering, but I think I’m going to become the poison master of my generation.”
what are the odds of a nine-headed snake and a nine-tailed fox? they should end up together. anyone feel me?
Don't forget, there were two nine-tailed foxes, and two snake demons!
What are the odds that...
(1) little Xiao Yao would meet a snake demon and antagonize it to alleviate her loneliness; and
(2) little Xiao Yao would meet a gravely injured nine-tailed fox demon and become close with him; and
(3) the snake demon would die trying to stop the nine-tailed fox demon (who had one of his tails cut off - so he actually only had eight tails) from taking little Xiao Yao away; and
(4) grown-up Xiao Yao would meet a nine-headed snake demon with nine lives, and that they would each enjoy antagonizing each other to alleviate their loneliness; and
(5) grown-up Xiao Yao would meet another gravely injured descendant of the nine-tailed fox, and become close with him too; and
(6) the nine-headed snake demon would also die in the end, but this time instead of dying because he tried to stop the nine-tailed fox from taking Xiao Yao away, this snake demon chose to die and used all his effort (and a few lives) to help Xiao Yao and the nine-tailed fox (who had seven of his tails cut off - so he actually only had two tails) run away together?
Yes, I think it has to do with the wig (the whiskers)
S2 hasn't aired yet and I haven't read the unconfirmed leaked script for S2. I'm afraid I don't have any special knowledge about how S2 will play out.
In the novel, between chapter 29 and chapter 51 there are quite a few chapters where XL has very little or basically no presence. There are also chapters where he has a major presence. From what others have said about the leaked script, some of XL's scenes from the novel will be cut. But other scenes related to TSJ and CX will also be cut. So even if those accounts are true, I'm not sure how all the cuts will affect their proportionate screen time.
In S1, the drama added several small scenes and a few longer scenes that focused on XL that didn't exist in the novel (e.g., the scene where he transforms into the veiled woman in white to accompany WXL on the boat). Given that, and the fact that XL is a fan favourite / Tong Hua's favourite, I would be surprised if XL ended up having a very small role in S2.
To add to what Symbolika1 mentioned, in the novel XL definitely uses up one life to save XY in chapter 22 after her assassination.
He also definitely uses up another life in chapter 48 when he kills the poison bugs to break the connection between him and XY.
He might also have used up another life in that chapter to save XY's life a second time (she gave herself a lethal dose of poison and would have died if not for XL's intervention), but the novel does not explicitly state that he did. We can just infer it based on the fact that he had to use a life to save XY from death in chapter 22.
He might also have used another life to save TSJ from death between chapter 46 (when he creates the jewel that revives TSJ and gives it to a merman with instructions) and chapter 49 (when TSJ returns), but again the novel doesn't explicitly state that he did. That's speculation based on what XL had to do to save XY from death in chapter 22.
S1 of the drama only shows the chapter 22 save, and from what we've heard about the leaked script there will be changes to when and how XL uses up more of his lives to help XY in S2.
Yes, I think it has to do with the wig (the whiskers)
That matches their characters in the story so well! Now I'm picturing FFB and XY gaining weight after all of the outings and meals they shared. Not to mention all the beautiful poison dishes that XY created for him.
It's making me think of a few of my favourite parts of chapter 16:
"Xiao Yao’s life suddenly became extraordinarily busy. She had to make poisons, she had to practice archery, and when Fang Feng Bei had time, she had to learn from him and go along with him to find entertainment.
After Xiao Yao hung out with Fang Feng Bei was when she truly learned what it meant to eat, drink, and be merry. She discovered Xuan Yuan Castle anew, so many places hidden in the small alleys that even her cousins didn’t know, Fang Feng Bei knew.
He was like an expert taking Xiao Yao along to eat, drink, and be merry."
and
"When they were out playing, it was like the two of them were just enjoying life. Two people who didn’t care about anything, who were willing to try everything, became partners venturing out into the dizzying world. Many things in life, it feels different doing it alone or with a companion. Dining, no matter how delicious, just doesn’t taste as good alone. Xiao Yao believed Fang Feng Bei also understood how she felt which is why he never hesitated and introduced her to everything he could think of and then took her to experience it.
Xiao Yao sometimes felt Fang Feng Bei was like a child who was lonely for too long. He had played with too many toys alone and it was no longer interesting. Now he had a companion, he couldn’t wait to take her to play, to experience what he tried. It appeared just casual but was in truth very sincere.
Gradually, Xiao Yao started sincerely eating, drinking, and being merry with him. As long as Fang Feng Bei wasn’t aiming a bow and arrow at Zhuan Xu, then he wasn’t her enemy."
and
"When they ate together, Xiao Yao loved eating the filling of a crispy biscuit and he would always peel off the outside of his and put the filling on her plate. When they were eating barbecue, her favorite was the neck area where there was a piece that was juicy with thin skin and he would always grill that piece until it was nicely crisped before handing it to her."
"But in life this is reality how many people can truly give up eveyrthing....we have responsibliities not only…
I'd agree that there's a big difference between XY seeing XL in a certain light and actually being in a place where she'd choose to have a romantic relationship with him or choose to run away with him.
