Hey there! Do you know by chance when did it end? Or did you watch it on Netflix? I added the number of episodes…
Already submitted this as edits to the page, but I can confirm that the show isn't finished yet. It's 43 episodes split into two parts. The first twenty episodes (listed as "season one" on Netflix) premiered in 2019 but the other 23 episodes haven't premiered yet in Taiwan or on Netflix internationally. The other episodes are ETA 2020.
Puppet show with gore and sexual content?! o_O How?!
Unlike puppet shows in the West, Pili's shows are aimed towards an older audience and features puppets that resemble human anime characters. There's a variety of intense fights featuring martial arts and swordplay, so they don't shy away from showing bodily harm and even death. (Thankfully, the gore isn't very realistic, featuring blood that looks like red tinted water, but it's still a surprise to people not expecting it from a puppet show!) That being said, gore (and most certainly sexual content) is actually a very small part of Pili, including War of Dragons. Much of the series actually revolves around political and character drama!
I would recommend checking out Thunderbolt Fantasy on Crunchyroll, especially if you're into anime, Asian period dramas, and martial arts/wuxia. TBF is made by the Pili people but is unrelated to the main Pili series and War of Dragons, so it's very newcomer friendly. There's gore here and there, but no sexual content. There's going to be a third season in 2020, so now is a good time to check it out!
