It depends on why it has not captured your interest by episode 4. For example if you don't like the story, then…
Absolutely the same! I stayed up until 4am and watched all episodes in one go on my first watch. I literally couldn't stop. The angst was so good and my heart was breaking for both.
For those who have finished watching this, should I try to finish it, or should I drop it? (I'm on ep 4 btw)
It depends on why it has not captured your interest by episode 4. For example if you don't like the story, then yes, try and continue watching it. At around episode 5-6 the real plot starts to really get going. The proverbial sh*t hits the fan. If by the end of episode 6 you are still not interested, drop it. If it's the romance and chemistry between the leads that doesn't appeal to you, then I would suggest dropping it. They both have a good character growth but nothing you can't miss. If you are here for the Wuxia action, drop it. This is a relatively low budget production and it shows in the choreography and action sequences.
So it really depends on why you are considering dropping it.
Personally, I loved the show to bits. I would even say, it has become one of my top favorites. Big names like the Untamed and Word of Honor look and feel amazing, but are not really BL. Not in the true sense, and it's always left me... hallow because of it. This one is proper Danmei and they are not shying away from any aspect of it. The story, plot and character development is fantastic too. Both Huai'en and Xiaobao have an almost perfect character arc.
Yes, the romance is... not healthy, but, if you are into BL/Danmei, this is pretty tame compared to some stuff out there. I found their interaction and most importantly later on (after episode 6), the angst around their relationship just deliciousssss.
Loved it! Yes, it's low budget, and sometimes it's very clearly visible, but as so many pointed out, it's definitely a step in the right direction. We need more shows like this, especially BL period dramas. By episode 3 I was obsessed with this show, and now I've re-watched it 3 times.
Definitely a fan of both leads. Wang Yun Kai's performance is so sweet and his expressions are very funny. I loved Li Le's portrayal of Huai'en and I will be following both actors in the future. Perhaps Li Le a little more closely. Absolutely loved him in this drama.
