Came back to say that Joy of Life has ruined me for good, there is no other drama, not one that can glue me to…
I turned to reading novels, but now I ran out of good novels too...

Hi! This article is centered around Xianxia dramas. I'll be working on a Wuxia article, which will probably (and…
Very true. While line between Xianxia and Wuxia does get blurry sometimes but in the case of JoL, no demons just yet ;-). Looking forward to your Wuxia article!

Great article! As someone who grew up in east Europe with classical kungfu movies, I'm very attached to anything related to Chinese content, especially fantasy.
in the past 30 years, I've watched Chinese movies here and there, but I really got back into it in 2019 and never looked back.-Don't watch the news or any other shows, except for Xianxia and Wuxia.
One more excellent drama to list here would be; The Joy of LIfe. I have not seen any drama with such a great cast and storyline, choreography...

I would also suggest; google for Xianxia & Wuxia novels. Great introductions to the wonderful world of written Chinese fantasy: Against the Gods (some may find it offensive), Nine Star Hegemon Body Arts, Necropolis Immortal...
Some novels are ongoing and could go over 4k chapters, with 1-2 chapters per day for most and some are quite slow - 1 chapter per month...You're better off seeking websites with professional translation instead of machine translations.
Additionally, some of the novels may be offending to some readers as there may be a lot of gore, sexually explicit material/harem, and so on.

holding the flute on a chin? That is not flute. That is a traditional Chinese musical instrument, called Xiao.…
Thanks for the videos Joryenal! Really nice tune and I also love the backstage video.
I grew up in eastern Europe and my culture and traditions are embedded in my mind regardless where I live or which language i speak - I just can't get used to how Dizi is played.

I'm hooked on Wuxia and nothing else. Surprisingly there is so much content and most of it is quite good. Even though I binge a lot, 4+ episodes per day, i'm not gonna run out of content any time soon.

I have been reading fantasy, science fiction and supernatural for a very long time and all of that can be found in C-drama. Stories are well written and acting is superb, even from the very young actresses/actors.. Another thing I like as an old geezer is; Stories can be very complex with many characters and yet their romance and characters growth is told without any nudity. To me woman is more attractive with clothing on then nude, but that's just me...

Thanks for the article.

I have noticed Bai Lu in The Legends and everything I have seen afterward was just as impressive.
Hope to see more costume drama as that is my go-to type of drama.

Good article! I don't care much about hype but I do hate hyped-up drama and then...nothing. Perfect example, for me anyway, is the Legend Of Fei which was hyped-up back in March and it still doesn't even have the release date- What a flying fudge is that all about?!

Having access to so much good and sometimes not so good content is a blessing and curse; Many of us will power binge through good content and develop very high standards and eventually get bored even with good content. The trick is to take a break and do something else for a day, two, or even a week. Your favorite flavor of drama will be almost as fresh once you get back to it.
Also, once you start dropping content easily you run into the risk of missing on some really good stuff - I've missed Eternal Love due to the first couple of episodes I did not like but got back to it after a little break and had a very pleasant few days while I burned through it in 4 days.

I love this drama but eventually it gets annoying with dragging and repeating same twists with same bad guys. Ending was good but as someone already mentioned it could have been better. With 30-35 episodes this drama would be solid 9 as everything else is great. Who ever did casting is a genius as "bad guys/gals" are perfect for their roles. Mains and side characters chemistry is great Also, everyone gets to play, even old experienced actresses and actors get decent amount of screen time. What a heck is with voice over?!

If you did not see Joy of Life, defensively start with it. Every single episode you will be on the edge of the seat and there is something for everyone: Superb acting, cast/sets, scenery, romance...
Eternal Love of Dreams is almost as good as the first season and definitely worth the time.
I can't comment on any other as I watch only Wuxia based C-Drama.

I loved the drama despite some weird inconsistencies throughout the story and sometimes iffy special effects/choreography - I'm a sucker for a powerful female lead so I'll ignore most quirks.
The acting was great, and as always Bai Lu performed exceptionally well. The leads chemistry was great and while I have a lot of shows to watch I think I will revisit this one once the weather gets cold. Thanks for detailed overview of this drama!

Actually all the females on this show are quite strong, either they are good or evil characters, which is rare…
Finally! There are very few c-drama with strong female leads and I can't wait for this one to air completely so I can watch it ;-)
