I skipped every scene from the side couples, so I might have missed on how Lu Ming died. Was it ever mentioned?
Yes it was mentioned although not directly. Si Xiaozhen learns that Lu Ming has passed away at sea through his sister (presumably the one who found her through his phone and broke the news) and passed a recorded confession that he had left behind for her on his phone. Preceding his death it is shown that Lu Ming had suddenly stopped responding to her messages, causing Si Xiaozhen to think he was ghosting her. Heartbroken, she stood crying in the rain outside his place, unaware of the tragedy. It is only later in Episode 13 that the truth comes to light when she hears his final recorded message, revealing his fate and his true feelings for her. There is a scene where she is mourning his death with her bff that "she was right above him flying in the sky when he was in the sea" presumably she was on duty somewhere nearby when this tragedy happened 😢 😭💔
