I've watched Eternal Love and Story of Ming Lan before this drama but I did not regret my decision. If I was to watch those drama after this drama, my expectation is going to be so high for the other 2 then. Just when I thought that Eternal Love was one of the best Chinese Historical drama that I've watched, Ashes of Love proved me wrong. This drama was so good, beyond amazing. I did not skip any moment. Everything about this drama is perfect. I've cried REALLY HARD, also laughed a lot throughout 63 episodes. It was an emotional roller coaster. If you are hesitating to watch, DON'T just start on it. I was skeptical at first but I'm so glad that I watched it.

SPOILER ALERT!!!
One of the greatest love triangle I've ever seen. I still feel bad for Fish Immortal, but I am glad that he realized what he did wrong and reflected. Leo Luo is such a great actor, I can feel his pain and emptiness :( Also when he was playing the Snake Immortal, he did such an excellent job, I was shook lol

Deng Lun (Xu Feng) and Yang Zi (Jin Mi) had one of the best chemistry on screen!!! You can really feel that they really love each other. Their love for each other is so deep, they made you laughed, giggled, cried, and smiled for them. Their time in the Moral Realm was one of my favorite, like it was so refreshing and depressing at the same time. But at least we really get to see how they starting to develop feeling for each other and I really appreciated the director for their love story in the moral realm. Well done! I was a little annoyed with Xu Feng's character at first but when he explained everything at the end, it made me cried even more.

Let's talk about my favorite second's love story of all time now, the Demon's Princess and Mu Ci. At first I was like ok...another basic love story for the support roles. BUT I WAS WRONG!!! I ship them so hard. I cried so much when he passed away but Princess was such a strong female character. She is a badass!!! I was glad that she was able to gave birth to her daughter hehehehe <3

Snake Immortal and Fox Fairy (Uncle) were my favorites! They are the heros in this drama. Enough said, you gotta watch them to see how they perfectly portrayed their roles. I LOVE THEM!!!

Overall, the rest of the supporting characters did such excellent jobs. The evil ones made me hate them, Heavenly Empress and Heavenly Emperor were match made in heaven lol they are both evil.

Now I can't move on from this drama. The music is perfect btw <3

I started watching this drama because I was bored and I saw Ha Ji Won as the main actress. I honestly did not expect anything from this drama; however, it was one of the most heart-warming dramas ever! This was a drama that I needed in my life at the moment. It will always have a special place in my heart.

I think I cried in every single episode and this is a first. Kudos to the writer, director, the whole production team, the actors and actresses that produced such an amazing, well-written drama. A MASTERPIECE!

Story: This is not your typical medical/food drama, but the writer somehow combined both genres so well. I don't want to spoil too much about the storyline, although it's very obvious that you can predict what is next with the main characters. However, what really had me crying every episode was the stories behind every patient at the hospice. The writer was able to incorporate food with each story and give meanings behind every dish was brilliant.

Character: All the characters had developed throughout the drama, but my favorite gotta be Lee Jun. He changed so much from the beginning until the end. His relationship with Kang had me crying the most. I'm so glad the writer & director did not turn him into a bad character. Although his mother was my least favorite because she ruined Jun, but I guessed the second to last episode explained why she wanted the hospital so bad. Still disliked her though because she used Jun for her own greed. Each character has their own sad story behind it, which is why I also loved this drama so much. It did not focus on the main characters too much, but it also gave the support characters a lot more screen time. I think that was why this drama was so heart-warming.

Acting/Cast: HANDS DOWN EVERYONE ACTED SO WELL!!! Even the children made me cried...

Music: AILEE sang their main OST, ofc it should be good! Overall, the OST did set the mood for the whole drama.

Overall: This is a must-watch if you are looking for something that is super heartwarming and you are in the mood to cry every episode. I'm glad that I watched this drama while it was airing because at least I could take a break from crying lol. Honestly, this will be one of my top dramas and I would rewatch it later on. Do not expect too much romance from this drama, it will teach you valuable lessons though. Every moment in this drama was meaningful. Also, the cinematography is so beautiful!

Must watch if you are in your late 20s, early 30s.

I haven't written a review in so long but I have to after rewatching this at 29 years old. I first watched this in my early 20s and I only remembered vaguely that it was good, but didn't remember much of the plot. I decided to watch this again after rewatching ISWAK & TKA with Ariel Lin. So glad that I rewatched it, because at 29 I can relate to the characters a lot more and I have a deeper understanding of the plot.

Like a lot of the comments here, if you are watching this at the right time in life (which is late 20s or early 30s) you will enjoy the drama a lot more.

Supporting characters: I believe that the actors and actresses portrayed their characters very well. You can't really hate them because these characters exist in real life and they helped the main characters realized that "maybe I do love my so called best friend". They were the reason why CYQ and LDR got together in the end. They are much needed for character development of the main leads.

Cheng You Qing: She is a true Leo hahaha and a girlboss. I love her character. Although, when she got back together with her ex...it wasn't a smart move. Of course you can't blame her, because at 30 you will feel like your time is running out and everyone around you is getting married. Going on dates with new people is tiresome. Like she mentioned in the drama when you go on a new date, you have to start again with the basics. So, it was understandable that she wanted to get back with her ex (can't help it when her ex is such a smooth talker). But then in real life, I don't think I would give someone a second chance after they cheated. In the last few episodes, she is "frustrating" to watch because as a viewer you knew that they would have a happy ending. But you can't blame her because LDR said that "It is impossible to love you." If I was in her shoes, I think I would hesitate as well. Because loosing a "best friend" is much harder than breaking up with a partner. Anyways, she is very lucky that she has LDR in her life and I love that she went on her solo trip at the end! Ariel Lin is one of my favorite Taiwanese actresses and she did an excellent job in this drama.

Li Da Ren: It was love for him since the very beginning and I love that he YEARNED for her. He was a total green flag but very selfish as well hahahaha. He only got together with Maggie because of his he wanted to prove to himself that CYQ and him can stay as friends and he was lying to himself. He said that he can't love CYQ, but then Nic said something in that one episode after he watched the theater show with CYQ, "you can't say the wrong thing to the right person". But then again, if LDR had confessed so early on this wouldn't be a 13 episodes drama hahaha. LDR should be a little more shameless in love like Maggie said, he missed his chance so many times :( But I think that when you really love someone, you just want that person to be happy. Good for him that his hard work paid off at the end. I have known of Chen Bolin and only watched one of his movies, but I'm going to watch more of his works now. I love his dimple and smile!!!

Special mentions:
- I love her mom and her dad!!!
- I love all the OSTs, especially the song that Ariel sang and Chen Bolin sang. Special shoutout to Tiptoe Love <3
- Chen Bolin is such a great actor, even when he was singing the song, he portrayed LDR's feeling so well
- I like the fact that CYQ is a Leo and the youngest child, it shows why she is "the center of the world." And I also like that LDR is the oldest child, he knows how to take good care of CYQ. Small details but really shows that the writer and director really paid attention to the script.

I just wish that they show us when the CYQ and LDR talk it out at the end, like the hard conversations. I want to see CYQ asks LDR when did he start liking her, vice versa. Also I want to see them going on dates as a couple not friends 😭

Overall, I would give this drama a 9/10. Highly recommend. Especially if you are looking for the "he falls first, but he also falls harder" trope.
