Yes, I my opinion he’s a toxic person. Yes he does help her to survive and loves her but in a toxic way. Anyone who physically causes you pain is toxic.For example, in the novel he was angry at her, I believe it was in high school, he stabs her with a pencil a few times on her hand. She’s not an angel either but if I remember correctly she doesn’t cause him physical or mental harm. She does manipulate him but it’s honestly out of fear, survival and at the end out of love.
