one thing i really liked about this drama was how it portrayed the complexities of each character. with villainess characters such as wanning and ji shuran, none of them are born evil - rather they're forced into it through tragedy and trauma. that does not excuse what they did, but it showcases how such characters aren't born like that, rather they're bred into it. and i like how the show also showcased how this is the reality for women within this patriarchal society and what they can be subjected to, forcing them to turn to evil means in order to survive.
i struggle to hold the same understanding for shen yurong however.... that man was truly unhinged. i still am filled with rage whenever i see him on screen but i guess that means that the actor did an excellent job (props!!). i guess the real villain of this show was men lmaooo (but actually for real).
wang xingyue did an AMAZING job in portraying duke su, considering how young he is. he nailed the character as well as wu jinyan. i must say, everyone did a good job acting wise in this drama. my favourite scene is still the rain scene (top tier, truly the tension was impeccable) but i also liked the scene in the last episode where duke su kills lord cheng once and for all ("i am not my father" ... literally got goosebumps)
It's so difficult to pin point the antagonist(s) in the show. We are not given many explicit clues. The cast isn't…
omg i agree sm !! one thing for sure is that the entire royal family is v sus but i have a feeling that maybe the step-mom is involved somehow, i just can't pinpoint entirely yet.
